Yay updates. For anyone who hasn't been playing the home game over zephyr:
I met with Lianne Scott of CAC and spoke with Eddie of W. S. Aiken Roofing
(MIT's roofing contractor) yesterday. Since the D-Zone team failed to
handle our problem as they should have, Facilities transferred responsibility
to their Structural and Paint Team, which brought in Eddie and also Plant's
pipefitting people. Eddie spent much of Tuesday on our roof, shoveled the
gravel away, found cracks in the rubber roofing, and re-flashed it. The
theory is that this fixes our roof leak and we should expect to be dry next
time it rains.
I also told Lianne about the various other leaks in W20 I've learned of while
doing this, and as you may have seen, she contacted several other groups
today to discuss the problems.
They also seem to think we have a pipe sweating problem in our ceiling. The
Structural team has now transferred our case (which is work order 4553250 if
anyone cared) to the Piping team. My conversation with Lianned today indicated
that the pipefitters should be in early tomorrow morning to further assess the
problem and hopefully conduct their repairs and reinsulate the pipe. Eddie
da roofer should also be back tomorrow to look at nearby sections of roof and
check out our neighbors' offices. With luck, I'll hear more tomorrow, but
Lianne is out until Tuesday, and so if info goes directly to her instead of
the on-duty CAC manager, it may have to wait over the weekend.
She'll also be having someone come in to check out the origin of the rust
stains on our floor and whether anything's wrong with the radiators, and says
that MIT will replace our ceiling tiles once the roofer and pipefitters
confirm that they're done (hopefully next week). She also offered to initiate
insurance claims for us if any of our equipment was damaged. I believe (and
indicated to her) that this isn't the case, but told her I'd like to reserve
judgment until we run the press after all is done and we can take off the
tarps.
