Kate, are you willing to write this up and send it in when we
get done with it?

To start off with, I recommend we praise the things that PSC
did right so highly that they will NEVER consider screwing them up
next time.

Positive things:

	APO supplied PC's.
	Large easy to read signs.
	We got free breakfast.
No projects on the New Hampshire border.
Freshman chose categories of work, and were assigned to actual
projects when they physically showed up on the day of the event. This
facilitates distributing actual, as opposed to theoretical, manpower
evenly.
Freshman were mostly psyched about service.

Bugs:

Freshmen seemed pretty apathetic about tours.

Picking one good idea and sticking to it long enough to plan
it properly is far superior to oscillating between two good ideas to
the deteriment of both. (This should be seperated from discussion of
how many of the ideas involved were good.)

Freshman should be told AHEAD OF TIME to bring money for
transport and lunch, including sufficient change for bus fare (4
trips). Freshman should also be informed before they leave home to
bring appropriate clothing. Attn: future freshman letter PC. (This
could be worded so as to prepare them for getting dirty during
rush/tours in general if it is not appropriate to mention CityDays
specifically.)

Change should be provided for frosh who forgot to do the
above.

The T runs on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day.

Refuse projects that are not close to MIT and T or walking
accessible. If appropriate, refer them to APO or other organizations
which have shown interest in a service project(s). Some rough
guidelines are below. Adherence to these can be checked both by
questioning the project contact person and calling the MBTA at
722-3200 or 1-800-392-6100. Times listed below are discretionary, but
should be consistent with time planned for transportation unless the
CityDays committee owns a transporter it hasn't told us about. :0)

Project must be within walking distance (5min?) of a T/bus
stop.

Maximum of one change of train of bus to get to site from MIT.

All transportation to site must run at intervals no greater
than (1/2 hr ?) ON THE DAY SELECTED FOR THE PROJECT. Fifteen minute
max interval if there is a change.

No greater than 30 minutes estimated commute. This time
should include the MBTA's estimate of travel time, plus about half of
the time interval between possible departures. Eg: If the bus comes
every 20 minutes, add at least 10 to projected time.

If your project relies on a single bus due to low frequency
thereof, you may end up putting a dozen of them into Greg McMullan's
car instead of a T bus. I'm not sure this is what the CityDay's
committee meant by freshman getting to know community members better.
(If you haven't seen Greg's Sentra, it is somewhat smaller than a T
bus.)
