Here's another service update and an overview of projects we have scheduled:
If there is a particular place you want to do a project at, you should
let me know. ESP has asked me if we can help with SPLASH, which takes
place the weekend before Thanksgiving. SPLASH is an opportunity to teach
high school kids pretty much anything you want. Unless someone tells me
otherwise, I'm inclined not to schedule any projects for that weekend,
and encourage brothers to help with SPLASH. Let me know if you want more
information about this. One thing in particular you may consider is
helping with a project called CRISIS, a program on international
affairs. The project will be part of SPLASH and is directed by an AX
alum, Yale Zussman. He will only be able to run the program if he finds
12 people to help. Email YaleZuss@aol.com if you're interested in
helping or if you want more information.
This Saturday Oct. 14th: Making Strides for Breast Cancer
Email me if you plan on going. Meet in the APO office at 2pm, and we
should be back on campus by 7:30pm. We will be "Setting up tables,
chairs, signs, unloading snacks and assisting with whatever needs done
to prepare for the nation’s largest one-day breast cancer fundraiser."
Saturday Oct. 21st: Prison Books Program
*I still need a PC for this. All the cool kids are doing it, you should
too. Please let me know if you can PC this.*
Help fill book requests for prisoners. We'll be leaving from the office
at 9:30am and getting back around 3pm. We'll have lunch while we're
there. This does conflict with Conclave, but if you're not going to
Conclave you should go to this.
Sunday Oct. 29th: Charles River Conservancy
Vlad is PCing this. Help clean up and prune trees along the Charles
River. Good, fun outdoors work.
Monday Oct. 30th - Friday Nov. 3rd: Ugliest (hu)Man on Campus
UMOC is back. Brian is the PC. *I still need manpower and awards
subPCs*. Also, if you have ideas about how to get candidates email Brian
(bpepper) or Matt (austein).
Saturday Nov. 4th: Child Care Resource Center
*This needs a PC* If you like working with kids, this should be a fun
project. We'll be helping with the CCRC's Family Fun Day. The project
will be 10am-2:30pm.
Thursday Nov. 9th: Cradles to Crayons
*This needs a PC* It's a weekday evening project, but we don't have
class the next day so having too much tooling to do shouldn't be an excuse.
YiLFS,
Irene
