Hello,
I wanted to remind everyone that there is a blood drive in La Sala in
the student center at MIT all week this week (10am-4pm Tuesday,
noon-6pm every other day). All types of blood are needed, but there
is a particular need for A-, B-, O- and O+ blood.
In addition to the movie passes mentioned below, there will also be
pizza available for donors and a raffle for tickets to a Red Sox
vs. Orioles game at Fenway, a stay at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, and a
gift certificate to the Oak Room.
Please donate blood and save a life.

Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made our
February/March drive a success. On behalf of the Red Cross, thank you
for saving lives.
The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from Monday, July
10 through Friday, July 14, in La Sala in the Student Center (W20).
The drive will run from noon to 6pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday; and from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday. By giving blood, or
volunteering your time at the blood drive, you can help save lives.
It is particularly important that donors come in during the summer
drive, because a lot of the donated blood in our area comes from high
school and college students, who are not around over the summer.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're welcome to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Drink extra fluids before your donation. You can begin to drink
extra fluids the day before your donation. Water and juices are
great, but try to avoid a lot of caffeine.
* In the United States, a blood transfusion is needed about every two
seconds.
