I just wanted to remind everyone that there is a blood drive at MIT
Monday through Thursday of this week, with Bone Marrow registration
available on Monday and Tuesday. All types of blood are needed, but
right now, there is a particular need for O-, A-, and B- types.
Please donate blood and save a life.

Subject: Blood Drive at MIT...5/1 - 5/4; T-Shirts; Bone Marrow Reg. 5/1, 5/2
Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT from Monday,
May 1, through Thursday, May 4, in La Sala in the Student Center.
Registration to become a bone marrow donor will also be available
Monday and Tuesday only. The drive will run from noon to 6pm on
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; and from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday.
Please use http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make an appointment
for faster service. All donors will receive a free t-shirt.
Hello,
Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made our
February/March drive a success. Congratulations to the winners of our
"Blood Wars" contest at our February/March drive, Random Hall, PKS,
and Alpha Phi. On behalf of the Red Cross, thank you for saving
lives.
The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from Monday,
May 1 through Thursday, May 4, in La Sala in the Student
Center (W20). The drive will run from noon to 6pm on Monday,
Wednesday, and Thursday; and from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday. By giving
blood, or volunteering your time at the blood drive, you can help save
lives.
Additionally, on Monday and Tuesday only, it will be possible to
register with the National Marrow donor program as a potential bone
marrow donor. You may register as a bone marrow donor even if you are
not donating blood. Please note that the restrictions on bone marrow
donations are more lax than those for blood donations. For more
information, please see our web site at
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're welcome to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Be sure to eat! Don't skip breakfast or lunch on the day of your
blood donation. Your body will need extra energy to donate a pint
of blood. You will also feel better after donating if you have
eaten a meal a few hours before.
* Each blood donation may help save the life of more than one person.
One donation could help a patient with acute blood loss resulting
from trauma or surgery (red blood cells), an individual with leukemia
(platelets) and someone who has had a liver transplant (plasma).
