Hello,
I wanted to remind everyone that there is a blood drive on Monday and
Tuesday of next week, with extended hours on Tuesday. All types of
blood are needed, but there is an urgent need for O- and B- blood.

Hello,
Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made our June drive
a success. We collected over 300 usable pints of blood On behalf of
the Red Cross, thank you for saving lives.
The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT on Monday, November
21st and Tuesday, November 22nd, in La Sala on the second floor of the
Student Center (W20). The drive will run from 12 noon until 6pm on
Monday, and 8am to 8pm on Tuesday. By giving blood, registering as a
bone marrow donor, or volunteering your time at the blood drive, you
can help save lives.
Please take the time to donate blood this November and so your part to
ensure that there will be enough blood to meet demands during this
winter's holiday season.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're welcome to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Meat, fish, sunflower seeds, and dark-green leafy vegetables are
all high in iron, and can be eaten on a regular basis to raise
your blood-iron level.
* In the United States, a blood transfusion is needed about every two
seconds.
