I was asked by a member of the housing committee if apo-news is a
reasonable place to send a copy of this survey. I thought it was pretty
reasonable, so here's a copy. (Note that there are 8 APO brothers on the
committee, including its chair, John Hollywood. That alone should make
apo-news a reasonable place to send a copy of the survey. :)

If you are on other mailing lists that represent a cross-section of
MIT's undergraduates and whose members won't mind too much, consider
forwarding this survey (but only if you check your own email first to
make sure that those mailing lists haven't *ALREADY* seen a copy).

P.S. Any flames about whether this is appropriate for the apo-news
mailing list should be sent to apo-acl@MIT.EDU, and *NOT* to apo-news.

Subject: UA COMMITTEE ON HOUSING AND R/O -- GENERAL SURVEY
Date: Mon, 03 Jan 94 21:28:24 EST

Hello! I'm John Hollywood, chairman of the Undergraduate Association
Council Committee on Housing and R/O, the UA committee charged with
overseeing all aspects of undergraduate housing at MIT. We're currently
conducting the following small project: completely evaluating every major
facet of undergraduate housing Our final report will include evaluations of
the physical, psychological, and administrative aspects of the dormitories
and ILG's; R/O in its current form; and the MIT housing administration.

We're beginning this project with a general e-mail survey, which follows.
We would greatly appreciate it if you, as president of a living group, could
forward this survey to your members.

You may have some concerns about aiding what appears to be a "search and
destroy" undertaking. This is understandable -- serious charges have been
made against the undergraduate housing system at MIT, and many of them have
come from sources that are neither objective nor credible. Indeed, this
is why we are conducting the survey -- to discover what the problems
actually are, and find constructive solutions for them.

Please be assured that we have no preconceived biases against any
fraternities, sororities, dormitories, other ILG's, or the MIT
administration. We only have the best interests of the undergraduates in
mind. If you have any questions about the survey, please feel free to
contact me at either 734-9211 or jshollyw@athena. And, if you have any
members of your living group who may be interested in joining the commitee,
feel free to have them contact me -- we are always looking for new members.

We thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

John S. Hollywood
Chairman
Committee on Housing and R/O

Undergraduate Housing Questionaire

Hello! We are the Undergraduate Association Council Committee on Housing
and R/O, the UA committee charged with overseeing all aspects of
undergraduate housing at MIT. As you are most certainly aware, there have
been many serious charges made against the dormitories, ILG's, R/O, and
the MIT Housing Administration. These charges need to be investigated, and,
if true, remedied. Therefore, we are currently undertaking the following
"small" project -- evaluating all major aspects of undergraduate housing
at MIT. Rest assured that we are not doing this to bash fraternities,
sororities, other ILG's, or the MIT administration -- we mean only to
serve the interests of the undergraduate student body. We just want to
take an objective, detailed look at the physical, psychological and
administrative aspects of undergraduate housing at MIT, discover what
the problems truly are, and make constructive recommendations to fix them.

But, to succeed in this we need your help. We are beginning this project
with -- guess what? -- a general e-mail survey. We need as many responses
as possible so that we can get an accurate picture of what is in fact
going on. We hope that you will help us by taking a few minutes to fill
this out. All you have to do is copy this survey into an e-mail
message, type the answers, and send the reply to "housing-survey".
Quick, easy and almost painless...

All information will be kept confidential -- we won't even see the
headers on the replies. Feel free to skip any questions you don't
want to answer. Thanks for your support!
