BLOOD SUPPLY IS DANGEROUSLY LOW:
The nation's blood supply has fallen to the lowest level in Red
Cross history, curtailing surgeries and prompting the agency's
first national emergency appeal ever. "This is the largest
shortage," Red Cross spokesman Feliz Perez said Thursday. So many
regional emergencies have never occurred at once, he said. Blamed:
Snowstorms, flu outbreaks and a normal holiday dropoff.
