Saturday 9/18 *SERVICE* AXAA Beaver Day
Yes its BEAVER DAY at the YMCA! Jonna, the YMCA contact person, said
we had done such a great job last year with 15 people attending that I
just couldn't refuse. The project will run 10:30 to 2:00 with lunch
provided at 2:00. Directions will be available later. It would be
polite to RSVP for this so they will know how much lunch to cook, but
I think a few drop-ins would be ok. This project could benefit for
the care of a loving PC. To volunteer or RSVP call me at
(617)648-4014 or Cline17@aol.com.
Saturday 10/23 *SERVICE* City Year Servathon.
City Year runs a youth "service corps" in Boston. As a fund raising
event each year they hold a Servathon. Its a lot like a walkathon,
people pledge money for hours of service. This means City Year has to
provide a day's worth of service work for thousands of people. They
do this by running a hundred or so projects similar to our old
Saturday Projects. This is where we come in. They need people to
oversee these projects and we are one of the few groups that has
experience. Various alumni have PCed over the last three years.
You don't have to find the project or find the man-power. What you do
have to do is go to one or two City Year pep talks/training sessions,
visit the site and make sure everything is under control, and
arrive at Boston Common at an ungodly hour of the morning. CY will
have a whole schedule of training sessions to choose from and I am
working with them to hold one at MIT so if you are interested let me
know your schedule.
I may be doing a phone calling for this so if you are *local please
RSVP* and save me some phone calling. Maybe is an acceptable response
at this stage. I want to get a list of interested people so I don't
have to disseminate details to everyone.
This missed the A..P..O.. Deadline:
Feed a Hungry Active
In conjunction with the active chapter we are trying out a new RAlumni
Big Uncles program. Local area alumni volunteer to host first term
brothers and their big brothers at their house for dinner. The goals
of the program are:
1) Recruiting for AXAA: Let the active know about AXAA in a positive
way and make them feel more comfortable with it because its not full
of strangers.
2) Making alumni more comfortable with the actives and creating more
inter-generational connections.
3) Let the first term brothers know that APO continues after
graduation.
4) Give the actives a chance to get off campus, have a home cooked
meal, see what life after graduation is like, etc.
If you are interested please fill out the following information and
return it to me. The information will go into a folder in the office.
The actives will pick out a name and give you a call.
I would recommend that households with more than one brother sign-up
as a household. This program will happen this term only if I get 10
households by September 30. Please return your form promptly. E-mail
submissions are also acceptable.
