I really don't know how to write this, but I'll try my best. My name is Ken and
I'm an undergrad at MIT. Over the past few weeks, I have been volunteering at
Loaves and Fishes, a soup kitchen. I've talked with the people who eat there and
they are a great group of people. Society looks down upon them, but I don't
understand why. Most of them have had a bad break in life and they can't get
themselves out. During the week, they just sit on the streets or work menial
jobs so they can earn enough to stay in the YMCA. These people have expressed
an interest in trying something different with their lives. Going on this, I
am trying to start up a new program called "Enthusiasm". Every week, the same
groups of people would meet with a group leader to talk about different topics.
Some ideas for topics are math, english literature, economics, christianity,
chemistry, and exercise fitness. I am asking if any of you would be willing
to be a group leader. There is a strong commitment required here, but I do
need help. If you are interested or have any questions, please get back to
me, by email or phone (262-3192 or 262-1203) Responding back does not mean you
are making a commitment. I just need to see if people are at least interested.
Do give this some consideration. In the bible, Jesus teaches us to love one
another and also help the poor.
The purpose of this program is not to get them a new career through learning
basic courses, but to give them something to do and also answer any questions
about Christianity that they might have. It will also help them to interact with
each other and us. I can give specific dates to those that respond.
This program "Enthusiasm" is going to require enthusiasm on their part, but also
on ours. I ask you to pray that this program may do what it is called to do
and also please pray for yourselves to see if your heart is ready to help.
