Minutes of ExecComm Meeting, March 29, 2000

Administrative  notes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Start:  7:36 pm; End:  8:04 pm Present:  Carolyn, Ann Marie, Oscar,
Lizzie, Yevgeniya, Ian, Jennifer Shieh, Lokie, Ellen, Jake, Davidmac,
Stephanie Fried, Aaron Ucko, Sam
Officers'  reports:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MVP (Ann Marie): We still have pledges. We had the Big/Little
       Study Break two weeks ago, and I've been debating when should
       be the end of the pledge term. Right now PCR is in two weeks,
       but it seems there hasn't been too many projects. Should we
       keep the schedule as is and be understanding?

Discussion: Carolyn has some reservations with leaving it as is. Right
now, one who joined APO fresh at the pledge ceremony would have had
four projects--Big Screw, Conclave, Park Cleanup, and Chapter Week-
end II. It might be okay to leave as is; pledges can probably mention
future projects they're expecting to attend at the interview.

SVP (Sam): Yes, we have service. This weekend is the MDC project
       where we pick stuff [trash] up. On the 8th, there'll probably
       be a project to dewinterize a shelter in Boston. We'll try to
       coordinate a trip to the Arboretum on the same day. On the
       15th, there's a joint project with BU at Camp Favorite. Tell me
       if you want to go. The Weekend after that (the 22nd) is Project
       SCORE.

Jennifer Shieh: Project SCORE (Service in the Community Ori-
       ented Toward Race-relation Enhancement) is an annual event
       sponsored by the Order of Omega. There are speakers, videos,
       discussions, and service projects, the last of which include food
       banks, community centers, and shelters. The meeting was to
       find out what people would want as the service project, but
       they still don't have things planned out yet. John Essigmann,
       the New House Housemaster, [helped made a video? and] is
       showing clips of a race relations video.

SVP (Sam): The weekend of the 29th is Chapter Weekend II. We'll
       be doing stuff with alums. Celine Mestel is the head PC, and is
       calling for sub-PCs. Pledges, be sub-PCs.

MVP (Ann Marie): Corollary: Initiation number one will still be at
       Chapter Weekend II. We'll try to have a shuttle for people going
       just for Initiation.

FVP (Joe): not present

Treasurer (Oscar): Tonight is the deadline for paying dues. If you
       want to vote at PCR. you should file an affidavit of membership
       with the MVP. Pledge dues are $20; put it in the strong box, or
       ask a brother or your mommy where it is.

AC (Ian): I'm figuring out what to do. We have Big Screw drop
       poster space from Saturday to Tuesday. I'm finding a Spotlight.

APOcEd (Nitin): not present

OM (David): We still have an office. We still have lots of tape.
       Nobody's putting stuff on the list [of things the OM should
       procure]. I kept the office clean. (shrug)

PubDir (Lokie): People have been selling drop posters. Sorry for not
       finding someone to deal over Spring Break.

Historian (Jake): By Tuesday there will be pictures. Hopefully
       they're interesting and focused. The genealogy program sucks.
       If we ever have multiple bigs, then it might become impossible.

Advisory Comm. Chair (Ellen): I got an Athena account (ccrazy).
       Conclave is this weekend. There'll be a Leadership Development
       Workship (LDW) there to help people develop personal leader-
       ship skills. If you haven't gone yet, you might want to. I went
       to New York last weekend for the Sectional Conference. Saint
       Francis College in Brooklyn is a new petitioning group. Coming
       up at Conclave--there will be a vote to approve Quinnipiac as a
       chapter. If that goes okay, there will be a chartering ceremony
       in May.

President (Carolyn): So there's this Conclave thing. I will send e-
       mail to remind people to go. You can still sign up! Currently
       I'm playing e-mail tag with the Chapter Service Director at the
       National Office. They claim that we have no community advisor
       and that I'm a pledge. It'll be fixed soon.

Committee  reports:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Big Screw (Davidmac): There's a meeting right after this. Sign up
       for slots and for the Sunday 5 pm setup. There are lots of spots
       open. Big Screw will work.
Big Screw Nominations (Yevgeniya): There is one official candi-
       date, and five who e-mailed but have not yet filled out forms.
       They can be official at the start of the contest, but can't win
       yet until their forms are filled out.
Big Screw (Davidmac): We'll do the drop poster after the meeting.
       At some point we'll rebuild the [giant] screw.  It's all being
       worked on tonight.
Big  Screw  Publicity  (Lokie):  Please help.  I'm afraid of Great
       Stuff(TM).
Old  Business:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
None.

New  Business:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oscar:  The Book Exchange Committee came up with the idea that
       Book Ex could start at the end of the term by collecting books
       from people going away for the summer. We'll provide storage
       books for their books--it will cost us $25 a month, or $100 over
       the summer.  If we do this, we can increase participation, and
       our take may pay for the expense. Discussion?
Sam: That sounds a bit expensive.
Advisory Comm. Chair (Ellen): The justification depends on the
       volume of books coming in and on advertisement. It has poten-
       tial; TCA used to have a year-round book exchange, but nothing
       of this kind exists anymore.
Ann Marie: I like the idea a lot, but we would need [good] locks.
Carolyn:  Remember that we had one book that we thought were
       missing, but appeared later on. We were lucky that we found it,
       but we should find a place where the books won't get confused.
Oscar: I move that ExecComm direct the Book Exchange Committee
       to proceed with this idea and [appropriate/allocate] $100.
Ann Marie: Second.
Discussion: EC cages may not be safe for the books; Ari says that we
would need to come up with a contract and rules this term, and stick
next term's chair to it. Emily will chair Book Ex again next term.
Motion passes, 8-0-1.
Announcements:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jake: A brother from Kappa may be dropping by during Spring Break.
       Be nice.

David: If you signed up to work the booth, be there.

Treasurer (Oscar): It's never too late to be active. Active and pledge
       dues are $20, initiation fee is $25.

SVP (Sam): Be a PC. Invest in your leadership future.

Stephanie: Conclave transport is hosed. There are no drivers or cars.
       [We'll have to go by] commuter rail.

PFTGOTO:
~~~~~~~
Ellen: Being sick for three weeks isn't much fun.
AC (Ian): Martians don't suck. Having only one person doing schedul-
       ing is a bad idea. [AC: should read having only one person who
       can do scheduling. I babbled.]
Carolyn: Mommies are cool, especially those that bake cookies.
David: Carolyn's mommy is cool. We went to the Children's Museum.
Oscar: It's fun watching the 6.111 students who think it sucks.
David: 8.02X is a joke.
Yevgeniya: 5.32 still bites.
Ann Marie: I want to join a circus.
