For a couple years now, we have been discussing a possible bylaw
ammendment to eliminate the distinction of Junior Officer and elect
all the officers in the Fall. The ammendment was tabled due to proposed
officer restructuring, most of which has happened through assigning
more committee positions. We'd like to get a smattering of brothers'
opinions on the subject. Ideas which have been thrown my way since it
came up:

PRO:

1. The main (although not historical) purpose behind junior offices was
so new brothers could hold office their first term. With our new policy
of having initiation before elections, this is no longer an issue.

2. We often find ourselves in the situation of someone who was holding
a junior office getting elected to a senior office and not having time
to do the duties of both until Junior officer elections. This is especially
problematic when the publicity director, who is essential for rush, is
elected to a senior officer position with heavy responsibilities at the
beginning of term.

CON:

1. The change to elections being after initiation was supposedly experimental
and could change back.

2. Elections would be made longer and might have to be held over the course
of two succesive meetings.

Please send any thoughts you have to apo-rules@mit.edu and add yourself or
send me email if you wish to be added to the list. If the chapter seems in
favor, we'll submit the ammendment in a couple weeks.
