*Officers' reports:

*SVP's report:
It's a project! On Friday! You're coming, right? We're feeding
high school age students. The highest manpower demand will be from 10-12.
Albert and JP are PCing.

Walk for Hunger: meet in the office at 5:30 am on Sunday. Registration
will be at Boston Common. The walking starts at 8. There are sponsor
forms in my mailbox.

Next Wednesday 3:30 to 5, Dima is PCing the Awards Convocation.

Afterfinals is coming.

There will be a CPR class, tentatively on May 11.

*MVP's report: -not present-

*AVP's report:
Systems went away. It went into the AVP desk.

I want to take a straw poll of people who think the Sournotes should be
updated. (Most people think that new songs should be added. Most
people think that some old songs should be taken out and archived.
The rest don't care what happens.) Submit songs if you want them in there.

*Treasurer's report:
I'm hoping to have as complete a budget as possible for Joint ExecComm.
If the chapter owes you money, let me know! Pass it on.

*Fellowship Chair's report:
Nothing to report.

*APOcEd's report:
A new issue of the APOc came out Monday. Get yours here. They have
candidates' articles.

*ASC's report:
Nothing.

*PubDir's report:
I think I'm going to put up a belated congratulations to Eliot.
What should I put up after that?

Kevin: Congratulations to graduating seniors?

*Historian's report:
(came in later) The camera guy is a dweeb.

*Chairman of the Advisory Committee, report of:
Nothing to report.

*President's report:
It's elections meeting. It's been fun.

*Committee reports:
Kevin: Chapter Weekend II happened. For more details, read the APOc.

Bridget: The Big Screw trophy will be presented at Senior House Steer
Roast, Friday 4/30 at 4:30 (or 4:45, something like that.)

*New Business: ELECTIONS!!!
Kate nominates Gilbert for treasurer. He accepts. Dave nominates
Crystal for MVP. She accepts. Ping nominates Dave for MVP. Dave
declines. (Aw..) Jen'n would like to nominate Sara Howe for MVP,
but she's not here, and Crystal says Sara H declined earlier. (Kevin
calls her later when he is kicked out. Results unknown.) Glenn
nominates Kate for president. She declines. Rachel enters the room
and is immediately nominated for treasurer.

*President:
Kevin summarizes his article in the APOc, adding that he will keep his
finger on the pulse of the chapter.

Ezra: The president has various mechanical jobs in the Bylaws. The
president is also a major motivator for What Happens Next Term, so what
do you see happening?

Kevin: I've already given any ideas I had to the appropriate people.
It's important to get everybody involved in rush. It shouldn't get
pushed under the rug, but it often is. Ping and Ezra have good ideas
for service and fellowship.

Albert: [who has apprenticed himself to Yale] How would you foster
leadership development?

Kevin: This chapter has trouble finding PCs and officers. I want to put
together a workshop. There are a lot of resources out there, but they're
often overlooked.

The meeting is closed. Henning enters. The meeting is opened.

Kevin is elected President.

*Service Vice President:
Ping says his article is in the APOc. Jen'n demands More Eloquence.

Kate: Did you enjoy your term off ExecComm? :)

Ping: Yes. :)

Glenn: You say ``I plan on having an *active* ServComm.'' Elaborate.

Ping: I'd like to see a couple of brothers volunteer, to phone
agencies when I don't have the time, to decide what kinds of projects
we should do, to gauge the chapter's feelings about the service
program.

Albert: To quote Yale, ``many times when people take on a PCship they
feel like they're out on a limb, and other people are hacking away at
that limb.'' What would you do about this?

Ping: They never ask people for advice or help... the whole chapter
needs to work on a solution. I can remind PCs of the resources
avaiable.

Meeting is closed. Meeting is opened.

Crystal: Would-anyone-like-to-say-a-word-about-preferential-balloting-Glenn?

Ping is elected SVP.

*Membership Vice President:

Kate nominates Bridget. Bridget accepts. The chair is handed over to
Jen'n. The pencil is handed over to Ping.

Crystal talks about ideas and plans and things. (Crystal will be R/O
chair so Sara Howe has offered to help out around Rush. Crystal is
not taking icky awful classes next term.) Bridget does too. (Bridget
will be here this summer. Bridget is taking 6.003 and some other
classes next term. Bridget is practicing running for MVP and won't be
depressed if she isn't elected this term.)

Ezra: How will having Sara Howe helping run Rush affect coherency?

Crystal: Sara will be someone to lean on and call on for organizing
help.. I will be at every event.

Albert: If you had two minutes to sell APO to a random person, what
would be your spiel? (Bridget gives spiel. Crystal gives spiel.)

Ezra: How do you propose to increase membership retention? (Crystal
answers. Bridget answers.)

Meeting is closed. Crystal and Bridget chat out in the hall but that's
not in the minutes. Meeting is opened.

Bridget is elected MVP.

*Administrative Vice President:
Harry gives a spiel.

Ezra: Is there anything innovative you want to do as AVP?

Harry: That's not really much of an issue for this office. I see the
AVP as dealing with things that need to be dealt with.

Meeting is closed. Meeting is opened.

Harry is elected AVP.

*Chocolate:
Break for Dave's psychedelic mood-altering Chocolate Oblivion.

(Aren't you sorry you didn't come to elections meeting?... :)

*Treasurer:

Gilbert: I was uncertain about running against Rachel, but I want to run.
I want to be involved more in the workings of the chapter. I haven't
been around much because I've been hosed this term. Qualifications..
I can use a calculator. I can balance my checkbook.

Rachel: My opponent will probably have more time. I have a calculator.
I know how to use xcalc. I have balanced my checkbook too. I'll be
taking 6.003 or .004 next term. If elected I will do the job.

Jen'n: Rachel, what do you see happening to the silkscreen program?

Rachel: I'd stick with it. I may do lots of delegating.

Kate: a) I can't balance my checkbook. b) Being treasurer means going
to the office for an hour, usually when no one else is even around.
You're out on your own. No one will notice if you're not doing anything
for at least a month.

Gilbert: I have the time. I'm taking one fewer class next term.

Rachel: I will find enough time. I have experience with being on my
own in silkscreening.

Ping: Have either of you had more formal training? (Both say No.)

Kate: Are either of you going to be here over the summer, and do you
want to help update the books? (Both say Yes.)

Meeting is closed. Meeting is opened.

Rachel is nominated for Fellowship Chair. Gilbert is elected Treasurer.

*Fellowship Chair:
Ezra: There are things this chapter should do. Service with Fellowship..
nothing's organized. I'd like to organize it. For example, dinner trips
after projects, an informal fellowship event to get to know alumni, maybe
like a study break. I'm taking three 12-unit classes and Thesis (most of
that will happen over the summer) next term.

Rachel: I haven't got any great nifty new ideas. I'll take suggestions
if elected. A Star Trek study break, maybe.

Jen'n asks them about social activities vs. fellowship events.

Rachel: It's a tricky distinction. If someone wants to suggest events
I'll take suggestions.

Ezra: Most social events are designed to promote fellowship. Some
succeed, some don't.

Kate: Steak Fry and I Banquet: At SF, a lot of people came, ate, and
left. I Banquet, we had a lot of suggestions for places and had
trouble getting one.

Ezra: I loved having I Banquet at 100 Memorial Drive. As for SF, I
ask anyone who ate and left: What did you not like that caused you to
leave?

Rachel: I've only been to two I Banquets. One was at 100 Mem Dr. It
was cool. The one at German House was also cool. Maybe we could move
it to Russian House.... As for SF, I don't know either. I know that
three or four people went to the Russian House party.

Bridget: Do you want this job?

Ezra: YES!

Rachel: I'm interested in holding An Office. I won't be crushed if
I'm not elected.

Glenn: One FC responsibility is to Promote Fellowship. What aspects
do you think the FC should promote. Give ideas.

Rachel: Spending time together, communicating. Playing cards is social
but not really fellowship. Promoting.. Study breaks, having discussions
about non-chapter-meeting topics.

Ezra: The best definition of fellowship I've heard is ``a brother is
someone you can call at 3 in the morning.'' ...if you need to.
Fellowship: Know each other better. Be able to talk, converse,
socialize, about non-APO stuff, outside of APO events. Ideas..
Blackout party. A study break to get to know people better; e.g.
a games party or collecting answers to questions.

Jen'n: Any thoughts as to new things? For example you don't have to
have a SemiFormal/Formal. Any ideas for new major events?

Ezra: Outside exercise; e.g. Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee at
a Chapter Weekend. Getting to know alumni... at SF people just sit
in clumps.

Rachel: I *like* SF/F. I don't want to replace it unless a really good
idea came up. I haven't given this much thought.

Dave: Do you plan on being active next term? How sure are you?

Rachel: Yes. It depends on my classes.

Ezra: I intend to. My only student activity is APO.

Gilbert: Part of the job might be helping the MVP with membership
retention. What do you think..

Ezra: Formally the MVP keeps track of pledges, and the FC keeps track
of brothers. It's nice when last term's MVP keeps track of his/her
children, too.

Rachel: As Ezra said. I think the MVP should pass on pledges' ideas
for events to meet the brothers at.

Dave: I want to ask one person at a time. (Rachel is swapped out.)
What is your evaluation/observation about the chapter's personality?
Feel free to say ``the question is ludicrous.''

Ezra: A small group is very dedicated. A larger fringe is somewhat
dedicated. The chapter is very concentrated on service, which is as
it should be. For the past couple of terms Fellowship has been just
let happen. People don't come up with ideas and beg to do them.

Enter Ann Yen and Steve Wadlow. Rachel is swapped in. Ezra is paged out.
Dave repeats the question.

Rachel: The chapter has a few major components. There is a strong
stream of silliness running through the whole chapter. There is also
a get-down-to-business stream which sometimes loses to silliness. The
chapter seems laid back. It would do best with a variety of fellowship
events. The chapter seems to like cards. [sec'y: Hey! I don't!]
Picking one overriding personality trait is not a good idea; the
chapter is made up of individuals.

Crystal confuses Ezra with Gilbert. Rachel is paged out to disk.
THe meeting is closed. Meeting is opened.

Ezra is elected Fellowship Chair.

*APOcrypha Editor:

Amy is not present. Kevin reads her written report:

Why I Want To Be APOcEd: (by Amy Hsu, 4/28/93, 7:45 pm)

I'd like to learn LaTeX. Perfect opportunity!
I'd like to see some pictures (not photos) in the APOc. ???
I'd like to see the APOc printed in different colors. ???????
I'd like to learn about putting a newsletter together.
I will have a deadline to keep. (This is good.)
I like documentation. It looks like fun. I can do it.
That's all. Oops, not quite!
Sorry about the Jim's Journal format of this. I promise that the
APOc will NOT be like this.

Experience?? PubDir this semester. Fun with fonts.

Who I Am: One of two short Asian female French House brothers (NOT Ann.)

Classes I'll be taking: a bunch of course 7 stuff (<= 48 units)

Other activities: MITCO, MITGASP, maybe Technique, MIT Anime, LSC
depending on how insane I become over the summer. But because APOc
can be a gradual, flexible-time job, I will be able to work on it and
get it done.

PS: I have disappeared because I have dress rehersal (8:00 pm). Come to
our concert Saturday, 8 pm, Kresge. :)

(end of report.)

Ezra: Has Amy mentioned how often she intends to publish, and will she
publish the dreaded ``empty APOc'' if she doesn't get any articles?

Bridget: I'm willing to write silly articles to fill it up. :)

Kate: I talked to Amy. She's psyched.

Harry: Amy is a terrific artist and I'll teach her LaTeX.

Meeting is closed. (Amy's report is sent out to the hall.) Meeting is
opened (Amy's report is taken back in.)

Amy is elected APOcEd.

Yay! The elections are over!
