Executive Summary: MIT's April blood drive will be Wednesday 4/18
through Friday 4/20 and Monday 4/23 through Wednesday 4/25. As usual,
the drive will be held in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive
will run from 1pm to 6pm every day expect Tuesday, when it will run
from 8am to 1pm

Volunteer to help at the drive: http://www.tinyurl.com/mitdrive418
This drive begins on Wednesday April 18, 2018, which is the fifth
anniversary of the death of MIT Campus Police Officer Sean Collier, in
the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings. The MIT Campus Police,
ARCTAN (MIT's Red Cross Club), and the American Red Cross are teaming
up to hold this drive (particularly, Friday April 20th) in his
memory. Whatever day you decide to donate, we encourage you to take a
moment to remember Office Collier.
The Red Cross is offering an opportunity to complete the reading and
health questionnaire from the comfort of your home or office, which is
supposed to save you around 15 minutes at the drive itself. To do this,
visit http://www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass, but be aware of several
caveats: 1) this *must* be done the same day as your donation 2) You
will need to be able to show a copy of your form (either emailed to
yourself, or printed) at the drive 3) MIT's drives are located in zip
code 02139. It is now possible to complete the RapidPass process using
a mobile device, such as your phone.

The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To make
an appointment, fill out the form at:
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Wear comfortable clothing. Wear clothing with sleeves that can easily
be rolled up above the elbow, as well as something that you will feel
comfortable in while on the bed during the donation process.
* One donation could help a patient with acute blood loss resulting
from trauma or surgery (red blood cells), an individual with leukemia
(platelets) and someone who has had a liver transplant (plasma).
