I just wanted to remind everyone that there is a blood drive at MIT this
week. we're running until 1pm today, but 1pm-6pm for the rest of the
week. We're still looking for more appointments Thursday and Friday,
and will take walk-ins all three days, depending on how busy things are
at the time.

Subject: Blood Drive at MIT...9/16 - 9/20; Red Sox; Zinga FroYo; Monroe Muffler
Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT from Monday 9/16
through Friday 9/20, in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will
run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Tuesday which will run and 8am -
1pm. Please use http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make an
appointment for faster service. All donors at our September drive will
receive a $1 coupon from Zinga Frozen Yogurt in Kenmore Square, a coupon
for Monroe Muffler, and a chance to enter a raffle for Red Sox tickets.
Hello,
Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who took the time to
donate or volunteer at our July drive. We collected 232 units of blood
despite only having three days of drive. We exceeded the Red Cross goal
each day. On Tuesday we collected more blood at MIT than on any day
since November of 2005. On behalf of the Red Cross, thank you for
saving lives.

Please help keep MIT's donor numbers up. Please encourage new members
of MIT's community (from your dorm, FSILG, department, or anywhere else)
to join you in donating this fall. We need new donors to replace those
who graduated last spring.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To make
an appointment, fill out the form at:
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Be sure to eat! Don't skip breakfast or lunch on the day of your
blood donation. Your body will need extra energy to donate a pint
of blood. You will also feel better after donating if you have
eaten a meal a few hours before.
* Approximately 5 percent of the eligible population in the United
States donates blood.
