Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT from Monday 5/13

run from 1pm to 6pm every day but Tuesday, when it will run from 8am to

receive a $25 coupon for Sullivan Tire.
Hello,
Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who took the time to
donate or volunteer at our February drive. We collected had over 300
donors, and collected 284 units of blood. On behalf of the Red Cross,
thank you for saving lives.
The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from Monday 5/13
Through Thursday 5/16, in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will
run from 1pm to 6pm every day but Tuesday, when it will run from 8am to
1pm. All donors at our May drive will receive a $25 coupon for Sullivan
Tire.
While blood drive donations we're up in the wake of the marathon
bombings, it is important that there is a continuous steady stream of
donations, due to the short shelf-life (42 days) of donated blood. This
is especially true as we approach the summer when donations tend to
decline downward, but the need tends to increase. Please help insure a
continuing adequate blood supply by donating now.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To make
an appointment, fill out the form at:

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* No strenuous exercise before or after donating. If you exercise
before donating, be sure to drink even more fluids to replace what you
lost during your work out.
* In the United States, a blood transfusion is needed about every two
seconds.
