Hi APO,
Remember how there was this project to help out with an awesome science
bowl, which was then cancelled because we had a rather impressive
snowstorm? Well, it's been rescheduled, and it still needs volunteers! Sign
up ASAP -- by Saturday -- at the PMD link *and* on the chmrr.
More (and more detailed) information can be found on the PMD website at
http://www.pmd.org/popup.phtml?id=665 . Normally, a training session is
required (there will be one on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 6-8pm) but certain
volunteer types won't need a training, so if you absolutely can't make it
that's fine.
Science! Oceans! High school students! Three of everyone's favorite things.

Hi APO,
Do you like science? What about oceans? Then this project is for you!
The National Ocean Sciences Bowl regional competition will be held at MIT
on Saturday, February 9, and they need volunteers! It's like science bowl
or quiz bowl, but with more oceans and adorable (brilliant) high school
students and they'll give you a shirt and free food just for showing up and
hanging around with people who are excited about science.
The competition starts at 8am and shifts run until 1:30, 3:30, and 5:30pm.
Yes, it's early, but it's so worth it -- I did this last year, and it was
so much fun, and very rewarding because these are some pretty amazing high
schoolers.
To volunteer, you do need to attend a training session beforehand, either
9:30-11:30am 2/2 or 6-8pm either 2/5 or 2/6. It's important that the
volunteers judging and keeping time and reading questions and so on
actually do it correctly.
Sign up with PMD here: http://s.zoomerang.com/s/BLB020913
Sign up on the chmrr here: https://apo.chmrr.net/nosb
and yes, you do need to do both.
Yours in Learning Facts about Science,
Rachel
