HELP FEED THE HOMELESS THIS WINTER

Sat 1/12 PMD COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

WHAT Serve dinner at Pine Street Inn

WHEN Saturday, January 12
         4:30-6:30 PM

WHERE South End
T-accessible via Silver Line and Red Line.
         Parking available

WHY Volunteers are needed year-round, but
particularly after the holidays (and summer),
to serve dinner to guests at the Men's Inn
         at Pine Street Inn (http://www.pinestreetinn.org),
Boston largest homeless shelter. Its mission
is to be a community of respect and hope for
each guest it serves; to be a resource through
which neighbors and friends can help meet the
basic needs of others; and to serve as a
national leader to end homelessness by
developing new affordable housing and by
offering quality training programs that enable
participants to work in the food services industry.

         PMD deliberately helps every January
since even large charities like Pine Street
Inn face volunteer shortages due to school
vacations (compared to excess people who
want to help during the holidays).

Healthy men and women age 16 and older are
         welcome to participate.

No food service experience is required--
just a smile, good heart, good health,
wearing a hair net, apron, and disposable
vinyl gloves, and ability to stand the
entire time and to follow directions.

We are also soliciting donations of homemade
baked goods without nuts since desserts are
often omitted due to budget constraints.
         See registration Q#13.

HOW Sign up yourself by 1/8 at http://s.zoomerang.com/s/pmd011213

         Incomplete submissions cannot be honored.
Individuals may only sign up themselves
(and may not reserve spaces for others).
Participation is required for the entire
project time span, 4:30-6:30 or 4:30-8:30PM,
to which you commit in advance.

After you are confirmed, PMD will email specific
PDF details the week before the project,
including directions to the project site
(by public transportation and by car),
what to expect, food serving guidelines,
and food safety and waiver forms.

WHO People Making a Difference (PMD) is a nonprofit
         organization that promotes informed and
         responsible volunteerism by involving people
in tangible, hands-on work that meets
local needs and by assisting companies
and charities in building successful community
         involvement programs that:
       * Produce appreciable results and bring
         tools and materials while conserving
         recipient charities' limited resources
       * Educate volunteers about broader issues,
       * Bring people together to make a difference.

"We live in a world in which we need to share
responsibility. It's easy to say 'It's not my child,
not my community, not my world, not my problem.'
Then there are those who see the need and respond.
I consider those people my heroes."
