Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT on Monday 11/19
and Tuesday 11/20, in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will run
from 8am to 6pm both days. Please use
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make an appointment for faster
service. All donors at our November drive will be eligible to enter a
drawing for a $50 Visa gift card.

Hello,

Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who took the time to
donate or volunteer at our September drive. We collected over 225 units
of blood despite not having a drive on Tuesday. On behalf of the Red
Cross, thank you for saving lives.

The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT on Monday 11/19 and
Tuesday 11/20 in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will run from
8am to 6pm both days. All donors at our November drive will be eligible
to enter a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card.

Many blood drives were canceled due to Hurricane Sandy. Please do your
part to make up for all of those missed donations, and help ensure that
there is an adequate blood supply as the holiday season approaches.

The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:

	http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.

We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.

Blood Donation Factoids:

  * Drink extra fluids before your donation. You can begin to drink extra
fluids the day before your donation. Water and juices are great, but
try to avoid a lot of caffeine.

  * The most common blood type is O Positive. The rarest blood type is
    AB Negative.
