Hello,
I wanted to let everyone know that we've extended the blood drive hours
on Tuesday (now 8am until *2pm*), Wednesday (now *noon* to 6pm), and
Thursday (now *noon* to 6pm).
We really appreciate that a lot of you have made appointments already
(enough that we've closed Monday, and may have to ask walk-ins to come
back later depending on when they arrive). However, there are still
plenty of slots later in the week. As you sort out your class schedule
for spring term, please find time to make an appointment to donate.

Subject: Blood Drive at MIT...2/13 - 2/17; Bruins T-Shirts; Tax Prep Services
Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT from Monday 2/13
through Friday 2/17, in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will
run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Tuesday, when it will run from 8am
to 1pm. Please use http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make an
appointment for faster service. All donors and volunteers at our July
drive will receive a free Bruins T-shirt. All donors at our February
drive will receive a coupon for tax preparation services.
Hello,
Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who took the time to
donate or volunteer at our November drive. Despite the Red Cross
needing to familiarize themselves with new equipment and procedures
during the drive we collected over 180 units of blood. On behalf of the
Red Cross, thank you for saving lives.
The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from Monday 2/13
through Friday 2/17, in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will
run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Tuesday, when it will run from 8am
to 1pm. All donors and volunteers at our July drive will receive a free
Bruins T-shirt. All donors at our February drive will receive a coupon

As you're sorting out your spring term schedule, please remember to make
time to donate blood. Please also remember that Valentines Day occurs
during this drive, and that you should insert your own heartwarming or
snarky comment here depending on your feelings about that holiday, but
donate blood either way.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Meat, fish, sunflower seeds, and dark-green leafy vegetables are
all high in iron, and can be eaten on a regular basis to raise
your blood-iron level.
* Patients with sickle cell disease, on average, need 10-15 units of
red blood cells to treat severe complications.
