talking of Rush

-----------------------------------------------------
rhkeeler- happy term! Yay! I'd like to introduce you to Monique, our new advisor
from WPI
slehmann- do you know where your littles are?
-----------------------------------------------------
Regionals

afarrell- regionals was at syracuse
oremanj- hey andrew, what's regionals?
afarrell- like a big Conclave
slehmann- what's conclave
afarrell- it's a conference involving service, dancing, and a banquet
rhkeeler- apo is divided into subsections like country->state->city; we are
divided into region-->section

96 --> ax chapter
ooorieka- has apo ever hosted regionals?
slehmann- 2008 nationals was in boston (Kim is our section leader)

rhkeeler- one of the things i will bring up is whether our section is able to
host regionals
afarrell- we did indeed want to bid to host regionals; possible locations are
hartford, boston area,

worchester (not really since they have not a big enough hotel) under
consideration;
other things that happened at regionals is i told a lot of people about conclave
(which includes section 96

and 94) so we'll be getting brothers visiting from all over
slehmann- we also got pretty shiny things
afarrell- a pledge program excellence and chapter excellence award
rhkeeler- they are sitting in the office, if anyone wants to look at them
slehmann- in you office hours *hint hint
--------------------------------------------------------
Bookex

oremanj- we help students who want to sell their books at their price without
making any profit; we've sold

200 books and over $8000 in these two days; i encourage all of you to visit the
chmrr to sign up for hours
rhkeeler- this is so, so cool! how can i learn more
oremanj- add yourself book-ex@mit.edu
slehmann- you should add yourself to the list
oremanj- but be warned that you will be getting the many automated emails that
come out
work the sale
----------------------------------------------------------
Conclave

oremanj- we're hosting it with chapters of sections 96, 94; we'll be having
banquets, dances, fellowship

events, and service events. The theme is 'the best Conclave of all time';
meeting tomorrow night, 7:30 in

the apo office. If you can't make the meeting, tell us
rhkeeler- what can I do?
oremanj- handle the banquet, making signs, registration, decoration, talking to
a bunch of alumni to see if

they can help; help with a friend
rhkeeler- what if I want more information
oremanj- add yourself to the apo-timelords mailing list; we already have a
chapter from philadeliphia

registered
rhkeeler- come to Conclave! you should be there; it will work like other
conclaves where we send out rsvp

but we still register like any other chapter
afarrell- there is also a facebook event to get excited about- like what
costumes are you where, what are

you excited about; or talk to other chapters, because other brothers are cool
------------------------------------------------------------
Service projects!

wwwennie: list of service projects; see email to apo-news
-----------------------------------------------------------
FVP

slehmann- since we want to do the house cup thing where we sort everyone into
houses; we are naming houses

non-Harry Potter names- there will be three of them- email apo-fvp, jvauhgn, and
rkw with naming ideas
rhkeeler- what about alpha, phi, omega or alpha, chi, and moose
slehmann- you know who would be leading the moose house; if you have any ideas
for house names, let us

know; or cool ideas for house sorting ceremony

moving on, i have a little riddle for you- what smells like sizzling meat and is
coming soon
oremanj- streak fry!
slehmann- yes; i will be looking for a PC soon; it won't the a super-awesome
because of conclave; i will be

soliciting for PCs later and if no one responds I will be soliciting harder

okay now for rush, a chapter theme but without being too creepy
rhkeeler- can we be not too creepy after rush too?
slehmann- yes
who wants to cook for chapter meeting
oremanj- there is a chapter meeting next week
rhkeeler- and expect prospectives to be at the next chapter meeting
slehmann- also, if you have any awesome ideas about fellowship events, let me
know
--------------------------------------------------------------
Rush

mgersh- it is happening very soon; recruitment dinner is this coming sunday;
there are going to be events throughout the week; everyone should be at
recruitment dinner- lots of people

come because oh hey, there's free food
invite your friends, tell them there's free food- no pressure; we just want to
see them and be happy
service projects seem to be later in rush
we're having a silkscreening demo, which is awesome
pledge ceremonies are wednesday 5pm (a week from tomorrow, although I might want
to talk to people about

pushing that later since it runs into classes), second pledge ceremony on Sunday
2pm, and a third one to be

scheduled soon- everyone should be there
rhkeeler- i believe it is a brotherhood requirement to attend pledge ceremonies
(so yes you should come)
mgersh- i'd like people to come with shirts without lettering (apo letters okay)
and pants without holes,

but i'd rather have you than your clothes
presenting the chapter in a good way to people- talk to them, don't be too
inside jokey (though those

people aren't here)
remember that rush is for prospectives and brothers- brothers should be happy
during rush- if not, talk to

me or emify because our efforts to bring in new people should not be hindered by
other things

afarrell- ideas for posters and other wonderful things, send them to me, emify,
or mgersh
mgersh- emify is the person to talk to, but feel free to talk to me
afarrell- talk to people who are interested in lfs
slehmann- and in moose, for the right reasons
mgersh- people around you, who aren't in apo already; network
rhkeeler- this is a particular good set of two weeks to wear your service pin
---------------------------------------------------------------
Brother requirements

mgersh- i'll point out the smaller points
--> all brothers should attend all ceremonies and rituals; took out 'unless
otherwise excused'
because that's implied in the rest
rhkeeler- we will call you up if you do not
mgersh- --> 'attend a major fellowship event' taken out because definition of
major fellowship events was
vague; changed to <= 3, because one is bound to be major
--> added pledges to the line requiring at least three for a service project to
count
--> added contribute at least one article to the apoc- this does not take a lot
of time
rhkeeler- can i make a crossword, draw a moose?
mgersh- yes
slehmann- can we start a story about a moose and hand it off to a different
person each issue
mgersh- that sounds like a good idea;

jvaughn- this is kind of unrelated; how do you choose an office hour?
rhkeeler- pick one, email apo-ac@mit.edu, and it goes on the website; office
hours can overlap with others;

exec (including junior officers) must hold <=2, rest must hold <= 1 and can be
anytime
oremanj- during the day is preferred, especially for things like umoc and big
screw, shifts are already

filled

times not allowed- Monday nights during chapter or exec meetings
oremanj- no more than two is desirable per hour, though

passes- all here to none

anchen- comment- i'm happy to be able to vote
----------------------------------------------------------------
Pledge Requirements

mgersh- they basically look the same except for a few details; changes made
parallel the changes for

brotherhood requirements
slehmann- and they'll need to write articles for the apoc
mgersh- yes, and i'll encourage them to write more- apoced turned mommy

passes- all here to none
------------------------------------------------------------------
Elections

Congrats to the new junior officers!
OM-emify
Historian-ekrueger
apocEd- anchen

nominations-
apocEd: anchen,
om: emify, ekrueger
historian: afarrell (later declined due to hosed-ness), ekrueger

rhkeeler- okay, editor-regular publication and distribution of the newsletter;
note that that does not mean

you have to generate any of the content
mgersh- except for the letter from the editor
rhkeeler- i will take nominations other than anchen, who i just nominated
anchen- how much work is this?
mgersh- one per chapter meeting is generally good, but no one will berate you if
you're hosed; there is

also a template, and no need to know latex
rhkeeler- historian archives pictures and mementos- like apoceds, maintain them,
keep up with photographs,

and (at CAPS) making sure that all PC reports make it to the locker, and update
the family tree

rhkeeler- we can blank ballot if we don't want to
alexwest- we can elect now, since all are good candidates
ellen- nominations are nominations until someone is elected

rhkeeler- hey andrew, why do you want to be apoc? you can also spiel at us if
you want
anchen- i want to be apoed because rhkeeler nominated me, i want to learn latex
better (?)
afarrell- what's your favorite font?
anchen- the default latex font and cambria
oremanj- how high was your score on Cheese or Font
anchen- pretty good
slehmann- how hard is a driving force of rachel to motivate you to be apoced?
How hosed are you? Latex is

time consuming
anchen- i'm taking 5 classes and a urop, so I won't know until psets start
coming out, but it doesn't seem

like a huge time commitment, right?
mgersh- i did 66 units and apoec and managed. not saying it was the best
decision, but it happened

rhkeeler- emify, spiel
emify- i'm occasionally slightly anal and will attempt to keep thing organized,
provided i don't get too

hosed. i would enjoy knowing where things are in the office; after this, if
there is someone who has a

burning desire to do so, vote for her, because i don't have a burning desire to
be om but would be willing

to
slehmann- also, as coke chair, i'd like to make a run saturday. would someone
remove the weird brown stain

in the fridge. it's disgusting
afarrell- i will
emify- will i need to attend all the meetings?
rhkeeler- if you can't, don't worry, but you should aim to
mgersh- i managed to be a junior officer without coming to meetings because of a
conflict, thought it's not

recommended
slehmann- so, we're having to share our office- how would you handle allocating
space
rhkeeler- i will take care of that (we're sharing with Flying Club)

*on the phone with ekrueger
ekrueger- i'd prefer to be historian, since i know what i'm doing now
rhkeeler- we'd like to add a few things to historian- updating the family tree
and putting pc reports in

the locker
we're also doing office manager elections, would you like to spiel a little bit?
ekrueger- i think it would be awesome to be office manager, because the office
is a cool place and i like

being in the office; i'd organize it
oremanj- how much time do you spend in the office?
ekrueger- sometimes an hour a day, sometimes not at all
oremanj- would you be willing to clean out the office before conclave
ekrueger- um...yes
oremanj- would you clean out the disgusting-ness of the coke fridge
ekrueger- yes, since i already do that for blackhole's fishes

oremanj- now for historian, why do you want to be historian
ekrueger- i didn't get to do as much as last term because course 3 is a
*explitive* but i hope to do more

in the future
afarrell- how confident are you at using the locker
ekrueger- i'm not super confident about my locker skills, but i would improve
them
slehmann- how would you document conclave? how would you get people to document
conclave?
ekrueger- does this mean i get minions?
oremanj- yes
ekrueger- yay! that would be fun
slehmann- how hosed are you this term?
ekrueger- probably not as much because course cut back on the amount of labs
they do
oremanj- thanks for talking to us, even with the awkward audio stuff

rhkeeler- we're moving on to historian while ballots are being counted; blank
balloting is also an option

if you feel none of the candidates are qualified
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Sharing office space

rhkeeler- let's briefly talk about the office- we have the office and the
silkscreening room- both of which

are being shared
the silkscreening room was shared with the lsc- origamit is assigned to join,
but it's unofficial because

asa people are hosed; there are specific rules for shared rooms- because there
are light sensitive

chemicals, and some of lsc's stuff is toxic; origamit wants to make paper- we
won't have the meeting yet

because appeals is happening

the office is to be shared with the Flying Club; the place where agrajag sits is
where they will be putting

there stuffs- e.g. a lock cabinet and flight simulator; they will not be using
the office for meetings;

they should not be using the office unless it is for the simulator; people with
card access are those on

the exec and are learning the simulator- part of that training will be the rules
of being in the apo

office; according to the agreement- this card access will expire every term so
people can't stay on by

proxy- once a semester, they might be holding an open simulator event

we'll be sharing a google calendar; the one thing they ask is that if their
using the simulator, for us to

be quiet; we don't have the right to kick them out, but we do have the right to
plan blocks of time in the

office that we need in private

the flying club doesn't seem to operate like us; they have an exec and general
public interest meetings

afarrell- should we have a liason to the flying club? should this be josh?
slehmann- clearly, everyone should join the flying club and get on their mailing
list
rhkeeler- i feel the liason would be more of the president's job, but if anyone
else wants it, it's open

ellen- it is wise to delegate a particular person to turn to from each group so
that things get funneled

through properly
rhkeeler- do people think this is separate or part of the office managers job?
slehmann- i think it should be the president's job because there isn't that much
communication to begin

with, plus the office manager is a nib
rhkeeler- i agree, i just didn't want to put out some bias
at one point there were three rachels at the meeting- me rachel, rachel of the
flying club, and rachel

meyer of asa

mostly, the flying club doesn't know how much interest there is in the simulator
alexwest- and there's the issue that the simulator isn't really working...
slehmann- also, people should't touch the simulator without permission of the
flying club
emify- are there private simulations that they don't want our people watching
rhkeeler- if it's an issue, we can meet with them and discuss it
oremanj- it's mostly a set of instruments, so i don't think it'll be that much
of a problem

rhkeeler- please read over the agreement tonight, please please please; it was
emailed to apo-brothers
i'm going to add one more thing about apo and the flying club letting each other
know ahead of time usage

of the office

read and respond to wwwennie's email, come to the conclave work session tomorrow
7:30 in the office, bookex

bookex bookex, come to rush events
----------------------------------------------------
PFTGOTO:
ellen- noa rensing who did the artifacts stuff mentioned that she would be
willing to get ovi ornstein to

organize a silkscreening demo; if the chapter is interested, someone should
contact her about that

slehmann- i'm ashamed you haven't done this yet...you should teach spark
rhkeeler- oh my goodness...you should teach for spark! SPARK SPARK SPARK SPARK
SPARK! if march 10 is a bad

day for you, there are lecture series and mini-teaching sessions for hssp also
available; talk to me

mgersh- see Hack, Punt, Tool- Th, Fri, Sat at 8pm
jvauhgn- i'm planning to go
slehmann- you are now the PC, make this a fellowship event

afarrell- do you like leadership...
slehmann- no (jk)
afarrell- do you like taking classes about leadership? You should talk to me
about the Gordon Engineering

Leadership on the 28th in the Grier room
rhkeeler- just be a scientist

ellen- be nice to people in the flying club; recruit them *hint hint
jvaughn- can we give them hugs?
rhkeeler- witht their consent; anchen and emify, will you be at the chapter
meeting next week
both: sure
rhkeeler- we'll do installation then
slehmann- so this is the proposal. the installation is the marriage ceremony
jvaughn- so what's the consummation?

oremanj- would you clean out the disgusting-ness of the coke fridge
ekrueger- yes, since i already do that for blackhole's fishes

oremanj- now for historian, why do you want to be historian
ekrueger- i didn't get to do as much as last term because course 3 is a *explitive* but i hope to do more in the future
afarrell- how confident are you at using the locker
ekrueger- i'm not super confident about my locker skills, but i would improve them
slehmann- how would you document conclave? how would you get people to document conclave?
ekrueger- does this mean i get minions?
oremanj- yes
ekrueger- yay! that would be fun
slehmann- how hosed are you this term?
ekrueger- probably not as much because course cut back on the amount of labs they do
oremanj- thanks for talking to us, even with the awkward audio stuff

rhkeeler- we're moving on to historian while ballots are being counted; blank balloting is also an option if you feel none of the candidates are qualified

Sharing office space

rhkeeler- let's briefly talk about the office- we have the office and the silkscreening room- both of which are being shared
the silkscreening room was shared with the lsc- origamit is assigned to join, but it's unofficial because asa people are hosed; there are specific rules for shared rooms- because there are light sensitive chemicals, and some of lsc's stuff is toxic; origamit wants to make paper- we won't have the meeting yet because appeals is happening

the office is to be shared with the Flying Club; the place where agrajag sits is where they will be putting there stuffs- e.g. a lock cabinet and flight simulator; they will not be using the office for meetings; they should not be using the office unless it is for the simulator; people with card access are those on the exec and are learning the simulator- part of that training will be the rules of being in the apo office; according to the agreement- this card access will expire every term so people can't stay on by proxy- once a semester, they might be holding an open simulator event

we'll be sharing a google calendar; the one thing they ask is that if their using the simulator, for us to be quiet; we don't have the right to kick them out, but we do have the right to plan blocks of time in the office that we need in private

the flying club doesn't seem to operate like us; they have an exec and general public interest meetings

afarrell- should we have a liason to the flying club? should this be josh?
slehmann- clearly, everyone should join the flying club and get on their mailing list
rhkeeler- i feel the liason would be more of the president's job, but if anyone else wants it, it's open

ellen- it is wise to delegate a particular person to turn to from each group so that things get funneled through properly
rhkeeler- do people think this is separate or part of the office managers job?
slehmann- i think it should be the president's job because there isn't that much communication to begin with, plus the office manager is a nib
rhkeeler- i agree, i just didn't want to put out some bias
at one point there were three rachels at the meeting- me rachel, rachel of the flying club, and rachel meyer of asa

mostly, the flying club doesn't know how much interest there is in the simulator
alexwest- and there's the issue that the simulator isn't really working...
slehmann- also, people should't touch the simulator without permission of the flying club
emify- are there private simulations that they don't want our people watching
rhkeeler- if it's an issue, we can meet with them and discuss it
oremanj- it's mostly a set of instruments, so i don't think it'll be that much of a problem

rhkeeler- please read over the agreement tonight, please please please; it was emailed to apo-brothers
i'm going to add one more thing about apo and the flying club letting each other know ahead of time usage of the office

read and respond to wwwennie's email, come to the conclave work session tomorrow 7:30 in the office, bookex bookex bookex, come to rush events

slehmann- i'm ashamed you haven't done this yet...you should teach spark
rhkeeler- oh my goodness...you should teach for spark! SPARK SPARK SPARK SPARK SPARK! if march 10 is a bad day for you, there are lecture series and mini-teaching sessions for hssp also available; talk to me

slehmann- no (jk)
afarrell- do you like taking classes about leadership? You should talk to me about the Gordon Engineering Leadership on the 28th in the Grier room
rhkeeler- just be a scientist

ellen- be nice to people in the flying club; recruit them *hint hint
jvaughn- can we give them hugs?
rhkeeler- witht their consent; anchen and emify, will you be at the chapter meeting next week

rhkeeler- we'll do installation then
slehmann- so this is the proposal. the installation is the marriage ceremony
