Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT from Monday 2/8
through Friday 2/12, in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will
run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Tuesday and from 8am to 1pm then.
Please use http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make an appointment
for faster service. We're also regularly short of volunteers. Please
drop a note to blood-drive-coordinators with your availability if you
have some time to volunteer.

Hello,

Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who took the time to
donate or volunteer at our November drive. Unfortunately, we collected
fewer pints than we had at any other drive in at least 8 years. On
behalf of the Red Cross, thank you for saving lives, but we can do
better.

The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from Monday 2/8
through Friday 2/12, in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will
run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Tuesday, when it will run from 8am
to 1pm. All donors and volunteers at this drive will receive a Red
Cross lanyard.

Please help us get our numbers back up (and more importantly help the
patients in need of blood) by donating, and bringing a friend along.

The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:

	http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.

We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.

Blood Donation Factoids:

  * Don't skip breakfast or lunch on the day of your blood donation.
Your body will need extra energy to donate a pint of blood. You
will also feel better after donating if you have eaten a meal
    recently.

  * Once collected red blood cells last 42 days, plasma is good for up
to one year, and platelets only 5 days.

If you want to forward this message, feel free as long as you are
sending it to a friend, or to a list for which it is appropriate. In
other words, feel free to forward, but please don't spam people on our
behalf. If anyone wants to get on our mailing list they can check the
appropriate box when making an appointment, or fill out the form at
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/email.html
