Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT on Thursday
11/19, Friday 11/20, Monday 11/23, and Tuesday 11/24, in La Sala in
the Student Center. Please note the unusual split-week schedule. The
drive will run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Tuesday and from 8am
to 1pm then. Please use http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make
an appointment for faster service. We're also regularly short of
volunteers. Please drop a note to blood-drive-coordinators with your
availability if you have some time to volunteer. On October 29th,
2009, MIT was recognized by the Massachusetts Region of the American
Red Cross as the College Sponsor of the year. Thank you for helping
make that possible.
Hello,
Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made our September
drive a success. On behalf of the Red Cross, thank you for saving
lives.
The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT on Thursday 11/19,
Friday 11/20, Monday 11/23, and Tuesday 11/24, in La Sala in the
Student Center. Please note the unusual split-week schedule. The
drive will run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Tuesday, when it will
run from 8am to 1pm.
On October 29th, 2009, MIT was recognized by the Massachusetts Region
of the American Red Cross as the College Sponsor of the year. Thank
you to all of our donors and volunteers, and especially to the other
coordinators for doing your part.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Meat, fish, sunflower seeds, and dark-green leafy vegetables are
all high in iron, and can be eaten on a regular basis to raise
your blood-iron level.
* One unit of blood can be separated into components (red cells,
platelets and plasma) and used to treat up to three patients.

appropriate box when making an appointment, or fill out the form at
