Be careful with the wireless techcash reader!!!

* It costs $3000 to repair or replace. TAKE IT WITH YOU if you leave
the booth unmanned for any reason at any time.
* It's a little trickier to use than our office TechCash reader; see
instructions below (a printed copy will also be left at the booth).

Using the Wireless TechCASH Reader

Be very careful with the reader! If you have to leave the booth
unmanned at any time, TAKE IT WITH YOU. It costs $3000 to repair or
replace!

Leave the handheld unit in the charging cradle when not in use.

To take a donation: write the amount on a paper scrap, charge the
TechCASH, and then drop the paper in the recipient's jar.

OPERATION
The power button is the round silver button on the top right. Once
it's on, use the stylus that's stored on the back, behind the power
button.

If it crashes or hangs, press the Reset button. It's a tiny button
(you'll need to press it with the stylus or a paper clip) on the back,
on the right edge.

Once it boots, go to the Start menu at top left, and select "CS Pocket Read=
er".

Then select "SVC" (this stands for Stored Value & Credit).

To check someone's balance, hit "Inquire" and swipe their card (stripe
down) or tap in the "Hand Entry" box to enter an MIT ID number. The
balance will be displayed. Hit "Main" to go back to the CS Pocket
Reader menu.

To make a sale or take a donation, hit "Sale". Enter the amount *in
cents* (so $15.00 is 1500), and hit "submit" or "enter" to make sure
the amount is correct and the decimal is in the right place.
Swipe the card (stripe down) or tap in the "Hand Entry" box to enter an
MIT ID number.
If the sale goes through, it'll say "Sending" and then display a large
green arrow and a confirmation message. Ignore the box below that --
it's for another sale for the same amount, which is sometimes
convenient.
Hit "Main" to go back to the CS Pocket Reader menu.

If the reader can't read the card, nothing will happen. Make sure
you're swiping it with the stripe facing down, and try swiping faster.
Or try hand-entering their MIT ID number.
If the person doesn't have TechCASH, a big red X will be displayed.
Try hand-entering their MIT ID number. If that doesn't work, and
they're sure they have TechCASH, they should probably talk to the MIT
Card Office.
