Minutes of ExecComm (February 14, 1995)
Administrative notes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Start: 7:35 pm; End: 8:25pm. Present: Len, Karen, Harry, Yale, Joe,
Dave, Bridget, Elaine, Jeffrey, Cathy, Richard, Charley, Junko, Sparky,
Kate
Officers' reports:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SVP (Charley): Chapter Weekend I has a PC. Yay. It's at Nobscot.
Sign up. We need drivers and sub-PC's. Shelter, Inc. is next
weekend. Chapter Skills Weekend is the weekend after that.
Jen'n emailed Bridget. Big Screw has all of the necessary PC's.
A letter was drafted.
MVP (Emily): I called the prospectives on Sunday. My preliminary
data indicates a pledge class of 15. I could be totally off base.
The Pledge Ceremonies are Wednesday and Thursday (as in
tomorrow and the next day!) at 8pm in 1-135 and 1-134. I'm
going to be there at 7:30pm (hopefully!) and hope that you will
do the same. The people with candle-lighting speaking parts
know who they are. The other speaking parts will be doled out
before the ceremony. Speaking of candles, where is the ritual
box? If you have it, please bring it to the office/ceremony room
by 7:30 Wednesday. Thanks!
AVP (Cathy): nothing to report
Treasurer (Harry): I have transferred signatory power and am still
collecting dues. I will be fully trained by Friday.
FC (Karen): Next Wednesday is the Big Brother / Little Brother
Study Break. The time is up to the pledges. It probably will be
here. Dinner trips may be moved to 7:30.
APOcEd (Barbara): Rumors have it that the APOcEd was seen
extracting the toenails of the people who did not write articles
for the last issue. Fact or fiction? You decide.
ASC (Junko): I have gotten somewhat of a clue dump. I scrolled the
board. I modified the office supply list.
PubDir (Elaine): I am in the process of editing the PubDir program
and printing out panels for the infinite corridor board. I have
spoken to Charley and Dave Cho about the PubDir office. I
will fix up the board very soon. Dave, I need help with your
Postscript program. What would the chapter like to see on the
infinite corridor board?
Historian (Jeffrey): Richard is busy with SIPB bylaws. I labeled the
new pictures. This weekend I will get a scrapbook.
Advisory Comm. Chair (Joe): nothing to report
President (Bridget): Boston Area Leadership Workshop happened.
Thanks to all who went. Conclave is coming up. It is $35,
which I want soon. There is a LDW there. Cathy and I went
to the meeting of the Wellesley interest group. They are nice
people; their focus on projects is different than ours. I got mail
from Jen'n about CPR training on the 4th. Are chapter meeting
reminders useful? (Yes.)
Committee reports:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Richard: A few years ago we invited BU to SFF.
Dave: That went over like a lead balloon in flames with nitroglycerin
painted on top. But AX and ZU membership has changed. It's
worth a shot.
Richard: Would people like to see this? The theme is Teddy Bears
and Tuxedos. It will be too big for McCormick. I will look into
Burton. Walker is too big. I considered Talbot. If people know
of other places, let me know.
Old Business:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bridget: People were considering an extensive chapter book. Would
this be useful? I could declare March a "build the chapter book"
month.
Harry: Maybe it should be an ongoing project, done when officers
come and go.
Bridget: It will be on-line.
Charley: Could we have project reports in the book or a folder?
Dave: The idea has been around for a while. A lot of information is
what the authors, not the audience, find important. If it is done
on a rolling basis, it will never get done. Figure out who the
audience is, then take a day and do it.
Richard: Use it consistently. Add to it as you go.
Dave: Then you get 40 megabytes about Big Screw. That causes a
lack of consistency and coherence.
New Business:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bridget: Karen, we used to have advisor lunches. What do people
think of this?
Dave: They were dying when I was a pledge. Brothers weren't coming.
Advisors haven't been interested in coming back. They were
very informative, about both APO and MIT. If there was a
strong commitment from brothers, I think the advisors would
come.
Yale: How many people come here routinely? How about a lunchtime
social hour? Can the fellowship budget provide dessert or bev-
erages once a week? (Yes.) Is anything happening with the
flammables cabinet?
Harry: Not for a year, at least.
Kate: The $500 cost is the problem.
Yale: There used to be a fund for capital improvements for student
organizations. Does it still exist?
Joe: The silkscreening room may be a better place for it.
Dave: What happened to Fincomm?
Harry: It will be organized at some point. I need people to help me
go over the books. Probably it will start within the week.
Announcements:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dave: I will try to get in touch with my children. If they have any
ideas, send me mail.
Karen: The Big Uncle program exists. Last term we had a signup.
Barbara: WRITE ARTICLES. DEADLINE SUNDAY, 2/11, 11:59
PM. Write about what you did or did not do for Valentine's
Day.
PFTGOTO:
~~~~~~~
Jeffrey: Karen and I have a concert Friday at 8 in Kresge with Dart-
mouth. We are playing the 1812 overture, minus cannons, and
Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
Dave: The Ballroom Dance Club is having a valentine dance. $2.00.
Karen: Happy Valentine's Day.
Cathy: Valentine's Day sucks.
Karen: I got a valentine. I don't know who it's from.
Dave: My goess is Joe.
Charley: My guess is Nico. He's been giving secret phone calls.
Jeffrey: 6.002 sucks.
Cathy: Anyone who speaks 6.003 can talk to me after the meeting.
Jeffrey: I want sub-PC's. I have none.
Meeting adjourned to general apathy at 8:25 PM.
