At this chapter meeting, I handed out a surprise anonymous survey about
blood donation. Here are the results. Keep in mind that the sample was 15
people who were at the meeting. I was not one of the respondents. A
commonly quoted statistic is that about 5% of the general population donates
blood. One out of 15 respondents in this survey regularly gives blood.
(Though another one 'will' give blood regularly.)

1. Have you ever given blood at a blood drive?
n=15
5 yes
10 no

2. If not, why not?
n=10 who have never given blood
4 ineligible ('too small', time in England, no reason given)
4 personal difficulties (nearly pass out, don't like needles, difficulty
finding vein, inconvenience)
2 low iron

3. Do you give blood regularly?
n=5 who have given blood
1 yes
1 'I will'
3 no

4. If not, why not?
n=3 who do not give regularly
1 low iron
1 often sick
1 don't know when blood drives are

5. On a scale of 1-10, in your opinion how important is it for people to
give blood?
n=13 responses
average=7.46
average for those who have donated blood before: 7.6 n=5
average for those who have not donated blood before: 7.375 n=8

6. On a scale of 1-10, in your opinion how important is it to have
volunteers at the blood drive for registration and to staff the table?
n=13 responses
average: 6.15
average for those who have donated blood before: 5.8 n=5
average for those who have not donated blood before: 6.375 n=8

YiStatistics,
Sophie
