For your amusement:

*A week ago, she had found you leaning contemplatively against a tall
classical column in the afternoon light. "We're looking for people of your
talent," she had said gently by way of introduction, offering a business
card on delicate pink fingers. "People with your creativity, your ability
to unsnarl an intricate problem." Her soft brown eyes gazed across the
lawn. "The human condition is a web of such snarls."

Now you find yourself standing outside of a clouded glass door engraved with
the ominous letters: S. V. P. Your recruiter holds the doorknob for one
long moment, and you have the distinct feeling that when it opens, your life
will never be the same again.

You are swept into a wide, brightly lit conference room. A flurry of motion
greets you as the four men and women in suits rise from their seats at the
roundtable. You can only spare a moment for the official-looking folders
spread before them, reports no doubt meant only for select eyes. A sharp
voice from the far side of the table commands attention. The SVP speaks.
"Welcome. Have a seat. Unfortunately, we don't have time for lengthy
introductions. We have a Situation here, people.

"As I was saying, preliminary reports from the PCs indicate insufficient
mass for this weekend's expedition. Where does the problem lie?"

The polished woman to her right replies immediately. "It's not in E-sector,
ma'am. Almost all of the names on the sheet are from my sector. I would
suggest we draw on resources from A-sector."

"Hmmm. How are the comm lines with A-sector?"

A long-haired man stands and flips on the projector connected to his sleek
black laptop. "Well, if you'll direct your attention to this powerpoint
presentation, we've only made contact with 25% of A-sector within the last
two weeks. However, since this population is unaffected by the looming
condtion-18-02-red, it remains a viable resource."

"Good. We'll implement high-priority individual poking of A-sector. But I
want redoubled efforts in B through D as well.
Next item: last week's brainstorming social was an immense success. It's
time to do data analysis. You have copies of the raw results in your
folders. I'd like to look specifically the last page. Now, these are novel
ideas and I want to know if there are any organizations in the area that
have established infrastructure in those departments."

Your recruiter brightens as she accesses some information in her hand-held.
"I have a counterintelligence contact in the PSC who might be able to access
blueprints for bullet four."

"Excellent. I'm glad those networks are paying off. Ahh, but if I remember
correctly, we have a gap in our grid. Agent Smith has been captured by the
forces of J-Lab and someone must perform her duties, completing the
inventory of the Master Contacts Database. It's a tough job, cold-calling
waystations that may have fallen years ago."

The SVP turns a hardened gaze towards you, the newcomer. "Do you feel
you're up to the task... Agent?"*
