* mitch/ellen's qualification is just fine
* historically, that is going back to the chapter re-start after world
war ii(*@*), alpha chi has usually honored people who have not been
active members of alpha chi, by awarding them honorary membership,
or passing a celebratory resolution, often with a printed special
certificate
dsks and chapter life membership has generally been reserved for
those who are or have been active members of alpha chi
there have been exceptions
*@* little is known to me (avi and others might know more) about the
chapter pre-ww ii

I meant to reply the first time, and then forgot, and when I remembered
at RulesComm, Ellen said she'd do it then, but it looks like we both
failed, so...
There are a couple inaccuracies in the way Matt describes DSKs below.
The range of people who can receive them is not "zero to the entire
active chapter." It's zero to infinity. You should think of *people*
deserving of them. There is no requirement that they be brothers,
although it's usually the case that when the Chapter awards a DSK to
someone not in the Chapter, there was some exceedingly good out-of-the-
ordinary reason that it was earned.
