Minutes of ExecComm
10/1/95

Present: Bridget, Ezra, Kate, Harry, Charley, Joe Kuchta, Joe Kay, Barbara

[Corrections, Deletions, Insertions and Random Comments about these
minutes should be sent to Kate, who apologises in advance for grammar
 and spelling]

Charley - After Finals is happening this weekend, Barbara should know the
details. [When Barbara arrived, it emerged that she had been
unable to find a camp yet, that wasn't either full or closed.
There are too many people out there who think that spending this
weekend at a scout camp would be fun :) She will try to contact
Camp Resolute tomorrow to see if they have room] A food PC
for after finals is still needed.

There is already one scheduled project for next term - Boston
Food Bank on February 11th for those people not going to
the leadership workshop. The Boys & Girls Club will be
contacting us on Thursday about a possible porject.

          I need PCs and Projects.

PC for Reg Day is Henning. There was a short discussion
about who contacts who first about reg day and it was
agreed that Henning needs to contact the registrar's office
to make sure everything is on track.

PC for Book Exchange is Cathy.

Still no Big Screw PC (HINT)

There was a discussion of what should be done about the
guy who lost (had stolen) his 6.012 book. He wanted APO
to check all 6.012 books that came into book exchange.
General consensus was that APO did not want to set such
a precedent. The person could come by and check the books
for himself, but should probably contact the CPs if he
found it. APO should not be responsible for establishing
the ownership of any of the books presented for sale.

A phone call study break to help find projects will
          be held (soon).

Emily - People have been giving me names of prospectives. Thinking
of writing a letter to them [Barbara offers to show Emily
the one she wrote]. Karen and I got together to discuss stuff
and decided on a Big Brother/Little Brother study break on
February 22nd. [There was some discussion as to whether such
a study break should be held before or after the pledge
ceremonies - I think the conclusion was that we should have
a study break before as well and encourage prospectives to find
a big brother then too] Already sent out email looking for
        Big Brothers.

Talked about pledging requirements with Karen and there didn't
seem to be any need for changes. Bridget suggested that the
voting procedure may need to be changed after the really short
voting period of last term. Also the requirements may still
have to be approved at the first chapter meeting.

Emily can't make it to the open meetings scheduled at the
end of IAP and Barbara and Kate both volunteered to help out
        if needed.

There was a guy from Technique here who wanted to take a
picure of APO doing something that didn't involve the
printing press [imagine cries of outrage from Kate and Harry]
He suggested painting or something. Suggestion was to
        ask Amy about it.

AVP - Cathy isn't back yet ...
The drop poster for the student center for book exchange has
      been reserved.

Harry - I'm hunting Henning !

Karen - written report 'cause she couldn't make it. The report
is on a small square of paper in case you're wondering.

Hi! This is yout friendly fellowship chair. This happens to be
a very small report (see the paper?) Emily and I have talked
about arranging a BB study break. I would love if someone would
volunteer for PCing semi-formal formal (March 18) Is the Penthouse
of McCormick good? Also, is I-Banquet at 100 Mem Dr good or should
we consider somewhere off campus like Camp Resolute? These are
just things I'm throwing out. Send email or let me know what you
think. Nothing else to report. Sorry so short.
        YiLFS,
        Karen :)

Barbara - Do we want to have an APOC issue before the first chapter
meeting? Maybe we could use it for giving to the prospectives
as well? Ezra suggested that he had tried it but it hadn't
generated much enthusiasm. Other people thought it might
be good, especially if Barbara already had enough articles.

Barbara suggests lighting a candle, thinking of dave, and
writing away - in memory of the fellowship event at the last
chapter weekend. These articles might be interesting to
          prospectives :)

ASC - Cathy's still not here :)

PubDir - Checked the mail box and there's nothing immediate. Haven't
seen Chris yet who will be acting PubDir for IAP. Emily
asks if the infinite corridor board can be redone to publicise
         the open meetings and projects.

Historian - Richard was dancing ...
He sent a message reminding everyone that the 'sort the
photos/eat cookies/have fun' study break has been moved
to Jan 21st. Check your email for details.

Joe - Nothing to report

Bridget - mrn asked us to call the leadership thing something other
than an LDW as it's not officially an LDW. Various suggestions
included 'The LDW that isn't', 'The LDW, but don't tell mrn',
          etc.

Whatever happened about the by-laws changes that were
discussed last summer, especially in regard to the possible
need to revamp the idea of junior officers. Kate owns
up to having lamed out completely and promised to dig out
the discussions and finish typing them in.

Harry vounteers (is volunteered) to get the group of interested
people together to talk chapter finance policy, fundraising
          etc.

Nationals:
Ezra gives a brief report on the national convention just held
in Grapevine, TX. It was fun; Ezra played a lot of spades. AX
came second overall in roll call with a rendition of the engineer's
drinking song - rap version. The optional blindfolding amendment
passed. No changes to the toast song passed. [Barbara laments death
of third verse] We have a new regional director - Cheryl Smith and
mrn is now head of the service committee on the national board of
  directors.

Help?
Bridget asks if anyone needs help ... Emily needs help running open
meetings while she's in Florida and Barbara needs a food pc.

Announcments:
Remember about Historian thing on the 21st
Remember about After Finals THIS weekend
Next execcomm meeting will be Tuesday at 6pm.
Barbara purchased new tools - 3 new hand saws and circ saw blades
[There was a short discussion on the pros and cons of the
chapter buying a small chainsaw. While they're useful, they're
also dangerous unless you've been trained how to use them properly]

PFTGOTO:
Barbara - Grad school applications suck
Emily - Summer job applications suck
Charley - Having to grade a probelm set every night sucks
Bridget - My little brother is coming to MIT, the chapter should
try getting him to pledge - he's a scout
Charley - don't take Greyhoud ANYWHERE
