February 9 through Friday, February 13, in La Sala in the Student
Center. The drive will run from noon to 6pm every day except Tuesday
and from 8am to 2pm then. All donors and volunteers will get a free
Boston Bruins blood drive t-shirt. Please use

Hello,
Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made our November
drive a success. We collected over 300 units of blood. On behalf of
the Red Cross, thank you for saving lives.
The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from Monday,
February 9 through Friday, February 13, in La Sala in the Student
Center. The drive will run from noon to 6pm every day except Tuesday,
when it will run from 8am to 2pm. All donors and volunteers will get
a free blood drive t-shirt. By giving blood, or volunteering your
time at the blood drive, you can help save lives.
Welcome back. I hope everyone enjoyed their IAP whether it was spent
at MIT or elsewhere. As the term begins, please take the opportunity
to donate blood and help save lives. Please also consider
volunteering your time, as we are regularly short on volunteers to
work the registration desk and had out food at the canteen.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Drink extra fluids before your donation. You can begin to drink extra
fluids the day before your donation. Water and juices are great, but
try to avoid a lot of caffeine.
* In the United States, a blood transfusion is needed about every two
seconds.
