Unfortunately, it appears that the "send email to the North Pole" part
of the mail I am replying to is false. I did see a "use your Web
browser to the North Pole to get donations" and checked it out
earlier, and that seemed to be true. In the home page at
http://north.pole.org we find the following:

HOME OF GOOD CHEER (AND GRACIOUS ELVES!)

Please Don't Spam Santa
There is a rumor going around that we're trying to get as many
messages as possible sent to santa@north.pole.org. Not true ... Santa
has all the mail he can handle and asks that you refrain from spamming
him or there might be a few last-minute transfers to the "naughty"
list.

The "Cyberspace Christmas" describes how visiting the appropriate
parts of their WWW server *will* get money donated. So please don't
send email - use the Web instead :-)
