Staying at MIT over IAP? Interested in doing something creative?
Business as UnUsual (BAU2) is a series of collaborative art events to
explore the connections between food, climate and poverty, and is
hosted by the MIT Western Hemisphere Project, Sustainability@MIT,
Global Poverty Initiative, and artist Cindy Snodgrass. Throughout this
term, we have organized several public art-making sessions during
family weekend & poverty week, MCAN (Massachusetts Climate Action
Conference), other independent sessions at Stata Center. and a Gallery
at Weisner at the end of October. We now even have an amazing display
in the display cases along Mass Ave, just past Random Hall (go check
them out)!
But still, we haven't had enough art! Cindy is considering organizing
a non-credit art series over IAP regarding BAU2 - what it can look
like and what we can do. This new IAP event would include research,
design, and art making to develop a series of installations and images
(posters, YouTube media shorts) for the MIT windows on Mass Ave and
other outside spaces. We may also build a second installation for the
13th Annual Sustainability Conference at Sloan School.
BAU2 has been organized and run largely by the help of some
individuals who are graduating soon - so we need fresh people! Cindy
and I have discussed a bit about what we could do; and we have a lot
of exciting ideas. Cindy also has some good leads on funding for this.
If you are interested in helping facilitating this, please contact me
or Cindy directly ( windsphere2@yahoo.com ) before Wednesday. She's
currently in town, and would like to have a meeting early in the week.
Why you should join:
- Art is awesome. Check out Cindy's works at http://picasaweb.google.com/windsphere
- BAU2 is awesome. See http://sustainability.mit.edu/BAU2
- It's fun! A large part of it is about brainstorming ideas for art
projects, and put those ideas into practice. You know you have ideas,
and you want to carry them out.
- It's inspiring and influential. You know you care.
