[If you plan to attend, please let me know, so that I can have some
idea of the number of people to expect.]
At the last chapter meeting, discussion about various issues embodied
in the national legislation amendments ran over the alloted time, to
nobody's surprise. We are still scheduled to do more discussion at
the next chapter meeting (Tuesday November 15), but it was thought
sensible to get additional discussion done in a forum other than a
chapter meeting, for those who are interested.
Therefore....
A special "NATIONAL LEGISLATION" dinner trip
Thursday, November 10 [note: Friday is an Institute holiday]
Meet at office 6pm, restaurant to be decided by attendees
What I hope will be accomplished at the dinner trip:
(a) wrap up discussion of some stuff from the last chapter meeting.
(b) touch upon some (not all) of the following (to be chosen by demand):
* Impose term limits on national/regional/sectional officers
* Instituting impeachment procedures for such officers
* Creating a national board treasurer and creating additional regions
* Eliminating or modifying extension membership
* Changing pledge and initiation fees
* Permitting chapters to purchase a house should they have the
financial wherewithal to do so
(c) help Dave and I decide which of the above issues (or any others)
should have priority for discussion at the next chapter meeting,
since we won't have time to take straw polls on all of them.
Although not required preparation, it would be useful for those who
wish to participate more productively to take a look at the actual
proposed amendments. The packet of actual proposed amendments should
be hanging in the office on the "national" part of the bulletin board.
In addition, you can print out a summary of the proposals sorted by
topic by running the following commands on Athena:
athena% attach pshuang
athena% enscript -Pprintername -Gr /mit/pshuang/APO/legislation.txt
[The printout is 4 pages long.]
[Again, if you plan to attend, please let me know, so that I can have
some idea of the number of people to expect.]
