Hello,
I wanted to remind everyone that there is a blood drive coming up at
MIT next week. I also wanted to let you know about some exciting
reasons to donate (besides the 'mundane' "saving someone's life").
In addition to getting a Red Sox t-shirt, all donors will be eligible
to enter a regional raffle for Red Sox tickets.
All donors will also be eligible to enter daily (Massachusetts based)
raffle for a gas card.
finally, the double red blood cell collection machines are back. For
those of you who have used and enjoyed these in the past, we expect to
have them every day of the June drive, except Friday.

Subject: Blood Drive at MIT...6/23 - 6/27; Red Sox t-shirt
Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT on Monday, June
23 through Friday, June 27, in La Sala in the Student Center. The
drive will run from noon to 6pm every day except Tuesday and from 8am
to 2pm then. All donors and volunteers will get a free Red Sox blood
drive t-shirt. Please use http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make
an appointment for faster service.
Hello,
Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made our April
drive a success. We collected over 230 pints of blood. On behalf of
the Red Cross, thank you for saving lives.
The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from Monday, June
23 through Friday, June 27, in La Sala in the Student Center. The
drive will run from noon to 6pm every day except Tuesday, when it will
run from 8am to 2pm. All donors and volunteers will get a free Red
Sox blood drive t-shirt. By giving blood, or volunteering your time
at the blood drive, you can help save lives.
Because so many of the blood donations in the area come from High
School and College students, it is particularly important for those of
us who are around to donate over the summer when those students are
away. Please take the time to donate, and if possible bring a friend
along to donate too.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Drink extra fluids before your donation. You can begin to drink extra
fluids the day before your donation. Water and juices are great, but
try to avoid a lot of caffeine.
* A premature newborn may need one - four units of red blood cells
while in Intensive Care.

behalf. If anyone wants to get on our mailing list they can check the
appropriate box when making an appointment, or fill out the form at
