Um, this was World War I. The armistice was signed at 11:11am on
11/11/18. The holiday was called "Armistice Day," in celebration of the
peace following the "War to End All Wars." When it was found that the
Great War had not, in fact, ended all wars (because of World War II),
the holiday was changed to "Veterans' Day," a day honoring those who
have fought in battle in our armed forces. However, the date of the
holiday has remained November 11th. This is distinct from Memorial Day
(originally May 30, now the last Monday in May), which honors those who
have given their lives in battle.
We now return you to the discussion for which this list was created.
