Hello,

Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made our April
drive a success. We collected 247 pints of blood. On behalf of the
Red Cross, thank you for saving lives.

The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from from Monday
June 25, through Thursday, June 28, in La Sala in the Student Center.
The drive will run from noon to 6pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday
and from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday. All donors and volunteers will get a
free t-shirt and free pizza. By giving blood, or volunteering your
time at the blood drive, you can help save lives.

It is particularly important that donors come in during the summer
drive, because a lot of the donated blood in our area comes from high
school and college students, who are not around over the summer.

The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:

	http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.

We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're welcome to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.

Blood Donation Factoids:

  * Be sure to eat! Don't skip breakfast or lunch on the day of your
blood donation. Your body will need extra energy to donate a pint of
blood. You will also feel better after donating if you have eaten a
    meal a few hours before.

  * The average healthy person will be eligible to give blood more than
330 times in his or her lifetime.

If you want to forward this message, feel free as long as you are
sending it to a friend, or to a list for which it is appropriate. In
other words, feel free to forward, but please don't spam people on our
behalf. If anyone wants to get on our mailing list they can check the
appropriate box when making an appointment, or fill out the form at
