Anyone familiar with HTAccess error messages

I have a document with some simple small 'gif' <img references
sometimes some of which are displayed at the Mosaic PC client
but more often I get
HTAccess: Error getting
"http://node:socket/file.gif": Error Num
-10058
The protections etc are OK as sometimes they display.
Any clues?
