In the lisp system I have mentioned, we used multiple virtual machine
for executing scripts with each script being "tagged" such that
certain capabilities were enabled/disabled depending on where
they orginated etc.

I cannot give out many details, and there are probably only
Japanese papers, but the system did work quite well.

While I like the virtual machine idea, I'd prefer that
distributed object systems be used.
