Help! I just installed Fixpack 17 and it's made my system incapable
of booting all the way. I installed the fixpack as instructed (A:\SERVICE
from an OS/2 Window) then rebooted when it was done. It did did the
replacement of locked files, then rebooted again. On this boot, it got as far
as the opening animation for the desktop (after the startup sound had already
played) and the system hung. Rebooting with Ctr-Alt-Del didn't help. I
booted to command-line mode, and then ran PMSHELL from the command line, and
it started up fine, though none of the network stuff was working (I assume
the CONFIG for the command-line boot doesn't include it all). Hoping this
was the trouble, I tried REMing out all of the network-related devices
and programs from my CONFIG.SYS. This didn't help. I tried deleting my
Startup folder, in case something in it was causing the halt. No dice.
I even tried restoring an archived desktop, and got the same problem.
The system always freezes right after the desktop opening animation, but
before anything (except sometimes the Launchpad) appears on the Desktop.
BTW: I'm running Warp Connect with Win-OS/2, which the fixpack claimed to
support.
Does anyone out there have any idea what could have caused this?
I really don't want to have to waste my 3-day weekend reinstalling OS/2
and all the supporting software again.
