There is a new "Fixpack" out for all Warp versions of OS/2. There is
a long list of APAR's that it fixes (one of which I experienced, occasional
keyboard lockups). However, since I installed it, I get SYS3175 errors in
some programs. (dvipm, the emtex dvi file viewer crashes everytime I try
to load a file. I have also seen a crash in WebExplorer.) I found
a few reports of instability caused by the fixpack on the newsgroups, but
no one has been specific about what types of crashes they have seen.
(Some people reported trouble with this fixpack and pmqsize, the program
we learned about in the May UG meeting to adjust default msg queue size.
Others reported that this fixpack is supposed to adjust this "bug" so that
pmqsize is no longer needed.)
There has also been some confusion about a botched release; if your version
has a date on the readme file earlier than 9/21 17:00, it may have a bug
whereby the fixpack attacks Windows (not WinOS2) files (i.e., it tries to
update vanilla Windows code).
I would recommend against installing this so-called fixpack unless you have
a serious bug that it will fix.
This package is distributed under the name XR_W010 (disks 1-6), plus
two readme files XR_W010.rm1 and rm2. You will also need the wkicker
disks, and a copy of LOADDSKF. The readme files contain a list of
APARs that are repaired. (Warning: installation is very slow. I
could have installed Warp from my floppies in less time. It just sits
there, making you think it's locked up, with lots of disk activity.)
If you experienced the same problem as I did (the SYS3175 errors) please
tell me. I am planning to uninstall this thing when I get a chance, but
I wouldn't mind some confirmation that others are having similar troubles.
