I am still trying to put things into perspective....it was mentioned before
that netbsd was not 'bullet proof' How does it compare with say BSD 4.3 ?

The problems a few people have been referring to have to do with an
extra security feature in 4.4BSD, which protects against some attacks
made by a person who already has root. This implies that the person
can get root in the first place. With respect to the latter, NetBSD
(and, to a somewhat lesser extent, 4.4BSD) has *far* fewer bugs than
4.3BSD.

Here is another perspective type question....if say we put a netbsd dialup
into productionb next month with the best newest software we could find, how
long would it be before we would need to do major software changes (for bug
   fixes or whatever) ?

That depends on the nature of any bugs that are found. For example,
if a security hole happens to be found the next day, you'd certainly
want to do something about that ASAP. Barring that, you should be
able to run the system `forever' -- though you may need to reboot to
install IPv6 at some point B-).
