I've been fiddling around with office hardware today:
* The rest of the dual pentium arrived today, and I put it
together. We are still lacking few parts, so we can't
connect either the floppy disk or proven's external 1GB
disk to the machine. We also don't have a keyboard and a
mouse. Proven said he would get the extra parts tomorrow.
binkley has been moved underneath its table; even though the
dual pentium won't boot yet, I'm leaving binkley out of
commission because binkley doesn't get used much and I want
the table space.
In case I'm not around tomorrow when the extra parts arrive,
people should be aware that I have installed NetBSD on the
external 1GB disk (although the partition probably needs to
be set active), so someone can just set the partition
active, boot off the hard disk, and configure the network
(which might mean building a new kernel for it, not sure
until we boot the machine).
* At Sal's request, I swapped the 3C509 in granola with the
3C503 in quiche-lorraine (granola is using its AT1700 for
most external traffic, and was only using the 3C509 for
MiloNet). granola and quiche's NetBSD partition have been
reconfigured to recognize their new network cards; quiche's
Linux partition may need to be fiddled with, but I don't
feel like fighting with Linux today.
I've printed out new labels for granola and quiche to
reflect the ethernet address changes, but couldn't replace
the old labels because we don't seem to have any tape. So I
left the labels on top of the respective machines, in places
where they hopefully won't get scuffed before we have tape.
* I replaced the toner cartridge in meadow. I put the old
toner cartridge in the bag and filled out the return slip,
but since we don't have any tape, I can't seal the bag or
the box. I left the bag, the box, and the recycling
instructions next to meadow.
