If we can't get that, it's a toss between 3C509 or SMC Ultra Elite

I would strongly disrecommend a 3c509 for any sort of server machine.
The SMC card would be significantly better in both CPU utilization and
likelihood of dropping packets under load.
I'm a little concerned about the SMC, as I don't know of any
systems here that use it...
I have 3 SMC cards right here, though not that particular model.
There were some stability problems with the Linux driver, but those
aren't really relevant to us.
