yes. (as in rm every file in the cache)

easy.. a directory is funcionally another file. If it gets corrupted,
you will have trouble with ls. As for the garbage in the console? I'm
not sure.. it could be some string being syslogged, nly the string is
beign read corrupt?  I'm not sure at all, and in fact, that seems
rather fishy...
