I sent in a couple of detailed problem reports with send-pr to the
NetBSD developers about the 3c509 problems. Brian Carlstrom reported
that he and dml have had the problem with autodetect.

He also reported that NetBSD-current has a single GENERIC kernel, so
they seem to have resolved the problems with the Adaptec and BT SCSI
drivers. I think for now we want to stick with the NetBSD 1.0
distribution and the 1.0 kernels for what we give to people at MIT,
but it is nice to know that the next release will simplify our lives a
bit.

Apart from those problems, the latest problem I've run into is that
the installation script creates /etc/passwd.local from /etc/passwd,
which subsequently results in the /etc/master.passwd being overwritten
with something that doesn't have a valid root password. The idea of
treating the system password files as derived files creates a mess in
this area, and I'm not sure of the best way of solving this. I'll
think about it.
