Does this mean we won't be able to use standard 72-pin SIMMs in a Dell
Optiplex machine, or just that we won't be able to use the SIMMs
currently in lola-granola on other machines?

If it's the latter, there's no problem.  If it's the former, then I
guess we'll be adding some memory to the Power Mac.
