athena-login problem

A couple of people have reported problems logging on to snork
at the xlogin screen. I got a chance to look at it today, and the
problem was a leftover /etc/ptmp file. I'm not currently very familiar
with the athena-login code, but my impression is that no function in
libal is supposed to leave the passwd file locked. So something may
have broken - but there's no smoking gun yet, such as a core
dump. Keep your eyes open.
