Possible bug

Today I had a weird problem. I would log into my NetBSD-athena 1.2 box,
and it would not be able to mount my athena homedir. Other people could
log in, and I could log in elsewhere. After unsuccessfully trying to
figure out what was wrong, I waited for the daily output, which indicated
that a passwd entry had appeared in /etc/passwd.local with the homedir
set to /u1/tmp/yak (the temp directory created for me when I first had the
problem, which was presumably intermittent afs lossage).

The upshot: you may want to check the code that repairs /etc/passwd
(and probably /etc/passwd.local) when a user with a temporary homedir
logs out of a text only terminal.
                                                 --yak
