/build on granola pretty full; dynamic linking?

I've just filled a bunch of /build on granola with XEmacs (formerly
Lucid Emacs until Lucid bought the farm...). I'm going to install it
in AFSland sometime soon, but I'm waiting on a quota increase first.
Please leave it around for a while if you can.
On a related note, I had to hack around at the end of the build and
link temacs static to get it to link at all; the error otherwise was:
ld: No reference to __DYNAMIC
Does anyone know what I need to do (that is, what configure should
have done) to be able to link it dynamically? I know little of such
things...
