It's worth noting that I plan to integrate all appropriate sipb-athena
changes we've made into the stock Athena source tree, starting in a
few months (maybe this summer).
I will probably push to make this same decision in the Athena source
tree (that is, making all Athena code use POSIX interfaces), and as
release engineer, I will probably get away with it. So this is
probably okay.
